Cyprus Church knows where to invest.... not only in beer

Post by cyprusmax47 »

I know that the archbishopric had already invested in photovoltaic plants at some of their monasteries and farms but now they go a step further and invest together with EAC on a large scale. As the Church is the richest landowner in Cyprus it is easy for them to use some of their land for PV installations. This article was today allover the press and also in CMail. https://cyprus-mail.com/2018/07/13/eac- ... sign-deal/

Are these PV Farms planned to prevent sunlight and rainfall from reaching arable land under the PV panel arrays, Max?

The rainfall will still run off all the panels onto the ground, and rain will fall between the rows.

We are in Cyprus Alan, and I believe even the Church is after the quick profit. Installations to allow farming under the panels with machinery are more expensive than the mounting system normally used here. Further are solar panels still more expensive in Cyprus as we are talking of relative small systems with 4+ Mwp and not from hundreds of Mwp. Interesting article and pics how PV farming could look at this link:

So if you look at the map one can see that in the same area are already medium sized PV parks errected which means the infrastructure is already there, nearby EAC's network

One of them is owned by a Beton company from our area and one can see their cars every day on our roads, busy to supply the building sites..
