Ignorant tourists!!
Re: Ignorant tourists!!
The root of the problem really is the planning dept. why did they give planning permission to build not just one, but many hotels all along the coast from the Venus Beach to the Cynthiana? It is well known to most people who live here how dangerous that stretch of coast is with its rip currents.
Where ever hotels are built they will attract tourists from overseas most of whom will not know how dangerous it is to swim in the sea there.
Though I also agree that going swimming at a beach where a red flag is flying is very stupid and potentially life threatening.

Re: Ignorant tourists!!
The hotels that market themselves as having a nice beach should shoulder a lot of the blame.
But it isn't just Russian tourists who ignore the signs. The list of deaths along that stretch of coast includes people from a whole host of countries, including UK expats and locals.

There are PLENTY of warning signs along that coast. Ignoring them is simply very stupid.

Re: Ignorant tourists!!
One of the issues with warning signs is that there are to many of them and hence people become blasé about them!
When driving how many road works signs do you see and yet no road works.
How many dangerous bend signs and yet a normal bend in the road.
Wet floor signs etc.
The list goes on so why should people be inclined to take notice of a dangerous swimming sign?

if you ignore the signs, you have only yourself to blame.......boycott wrote: ↑Sat Jun 23, 2018 11:45 am One of the issues with warning signs is that there are to many of them and hence people become blasé about them!

They have them all the time, especially in the UK. If somebody spills something in a shop, and it isn't cleaned up properly, and another customer slips on it, the shop is liable. So the signs have to go up to cover the shop's arse.

They have them in Cyprus too. I've seen them in Alpha Mega for instance.

This problem was published several years ago on CL, greeted by some as irrelevant then.
