Couldn't they have just used a pool net to get the snake out? Why call the police or fire brigade at all?
Given that it was a black snake, there was no danger.

Re: Trapped snake highlights problem with animal protection in Cyprus
I had a similar issue years ago with a very large black snake trapped in my empty pool which was not finished that time. I could not get the snake
with the pool net as she was so large and ever so fast. In the end I gave up and put one large 6 m, 4inch plastic pipe at the edge of the empty pool.
If you believe or not the snake was clever enough to realize that she could escape her prison via the pipe within 10 minutes. It was for me unbelievable to watch that...

I would have thought there are far bigger issues regarding animal welfare for this pressure group to use their media contacts to highlight than this. Unfortunate as it was for the snake there must be many killed every day they are active on the roads and in the fields. I believe the emergency services have higher priorities than this.

Whilst accepting that it wasn't a matter for the police or fire brigade, I wonder why they just didn't point the people in the direction of someone that could help rather than just the standard shrug of the shoulders.

I understood that one of the duties of the fire brigade was dealing with snakes ...
