£350 million NHS Funding "Promise" by Leave Campaign
Good news for the NHS and those who use it and something Remainers have been talking about for some time now. I'm quite surprised none of them have posted it on here. £350million per week, with more on top.

It is good to read all the account as it also says that taxes will rise to partly fund it.

Re: £350 million NHS Funding "Promise" by Leave Campaign
I don't mind taxes rising to fund something that is extremely important. For me, the main thing is extra funding, more than was talked about during the Referendum. Good news!

Has this been costed yet? IE how much is going to come from taxation. They better not just increase borrowing to pay for it. That would be grossly immoral.
But why should the remainers post about it? Even if the money was all coming from the "windfall", surely it would be up to the brexiters to post about it. The brexiters don't post any of the negatives of Brexit, so why should the remainers post the perceived positives?

Because Remainers were constantly going on about the £350million slogan that was used during the campaign! When it finally happens, silence! Hence my comment.Dominic wrote: ↑Sun Jun 17, 2018 10:46 pm Has this been costed yet? IE how much is going to come from taxation. They better not just increase borrowing to pay for it. It hasn't happened yet, and it isn't being paid for by Brexit.

Re: £350 million NHS Funding "Promise" by Leave Campaign
Are you suggesting it won't happen? As to funding, I haven't yet read where all the money will be coming from, have you? However, and here's me being the eternal optimist, £350million was constantly trotted out by both sides. Remainers have been asking where it is, well it's here. Great news as far asI'm concerned

Re: £350 million NHS Funding "Promise" by Leave Campaign
Some money is supposed to be coming from the "Brexit Windfall", the rest, increased taxation.
But nobody knows what the "Brexit Windfall" is going to be, if indeed it will be anything, once the farmers etc are paid off.
I'm all for the concept of increasing tax to pay for a better NHS, but that would have been the case with or without Brexit. This is only a victory for Brexit if it is funded, as stated on the bus, by the Brexit Windfall. Clearly, it isn't.

Re: £350 million NHS Funding "Promise" by Leave Campaign
I disagree, this is a victory for the NHS partly because of Brexit. Not only because of statements made by Leave campaign but also because of the pressures May is under due to various factions, and the NHS is a vote winner ( or loser) I don't see that it would have happened without Brexit, be that an unintended consequence or not.Dominic wrote: ↑Mon Jun 18, 2018 8:02 am Some money is supposed to be coming from the "Brexit Windfall", the rest, increased taxation.

Re: £350 million NHS Funding "Promise" by Leave Campaign
I'm not an economist, so consider I'm an ignoramus. However, I've listened to comments on three TV networks and I've read what has been published on the 'Net by journalists and economists and I also had a session with my faithful 12 y-o HP RPN programmable calculator. I've come to a provisional conclusion that the only way that May's promises and aspirations can be fully met is by more borrowing for at least 5 years. My question is whether the cost of the borrowing has been factored into the monies from the funding or are they on a separate account of the UK's ginormous debt. If the former, it will become a smokescreen and the NHS will suffer from reduced funding. If the latter, can the treasury afford to pay for it? The big unknown question is the proportion of the promise that will need to be funded by borrowing; if less than 10%, perhaps the UK may be able to 'get away with it' but if it is more than about 15%, then it becomes unaffordable.
Re: £350 million NHS Funding "Promise" by Leave Campaign
I welcome the extra money into the NHS.
I am prepared, personally, to pay extra taxes to pay for it.
However, the hogwash about it coming a a brexit windfall, disguises the fact that despite the Tories manifesta stating they wouldn’t borrow more or increase our debt, that’s exactly what will happen. It may be disgusied, but since Osborne failed in his promises and the best has increased massively, I can only see it increasing more. We simply have a huge defecit that’s forecast to increase with brexit.
May quite simply is guiding a ship with a broken throttle, heading for the rocks and her party is stoking the boilers along the way. Sadly, too many people with riches and power will benefit from brexit - people like Rees-Mogg whose investment arm has already opened up in Ireland and is warning of market tumbles over brexit.

This post is a non sequitur and is devoid of opinion relating to NHS funding. Please stick to the subject instead of introducing red herrings into a discussion on NHS funding!Hudswell wrote: ↑Mon Jun 18, 2018 1:34 pm Come Jim, don't sit on the Fench..give us your alternative Government Scenario....the only real issue I have with the current one is the constant infighting which weakens the Government at home, but more importantly with our negotions with the EU, who must be loving the turmoil and will take every advantage. The people have voted, we will leave the EU next year, it is about time politicians got behind the will of the people and ensure we leave in good order.

Re: £350 million NHS Funding "Promise" by Leave Campaign
Ok, as to your alternative Government scenario.... Now, bear in mind I wouldn't vote Tory or Labour, nor UKIP nor Lib Dem.... I have voted Labout in the past, but since Tony Blair, not....
However, the Tories mocked Labour recently, for their "Money Tree" approach to funding - something TM has now encapsulated perfectly.
I'd fund NHS and Social Care from extra taxes on a sliding scale, with the reintroduction of top rates of 50%+ and I'd also ensure companies like Vodafone, Google, Apple et al paid their proper corporate taxes.I'd find it easy to find an extra £30bn a year just from corporation taxes.

If you didn't drive them directly into the EU. I'm sure that May has not factored in that the extra revenue from a corporate tax increase is always less than calculated, because a) some companies cannot afford it and go phut; b) some companies will migrate elsewhere; and c) some companies will hire a tax expert who will reduce their bill.
Re: £350 million NHS Funding "Promise" by Leave Campaign
I think you are all missing the really serious point here. The issue is not where the money is coming from, but where it is going. Before you all crow about money for the NHS being a good thing wherever it is coming from, please think on.
Is it going to extra pay for nurses? More Doctors? Better equipment? Additional services? Elimination of the post code lottery on services? Mental health? Or is it going on administration and administrators? The answer is we just don't know, but I am willing to have a bet.
May needs to say what the money will be spent on, say how patients will benefit, and put a system in place to monitor and demonstrate the effectiveness of that spending. Only then will we be able to see if it is money well spent. However, she won't, and the money will just disappear without trace once the political benefits have been exhausted.

Re: £350 million NHS Funding "Promise" by Leave Campaign
Mrs May would be very foolish indeed if she put more resources into the NHS to pay for yet more managers and admin. It must be spent on the essentials to provide efficient health care for British Citizens. That is as you say Josef, nurses, doctors, beds, equipment etc.
She has stated that it will be partly funded by monies which would have been paid to the EU, good news for this Brexiteer.

Re: £350 million NHS Funding "Promise" by Leave Campaign
That would be similiar to Germany where you´ll have to pay about 16 % of your salary for health insurance and another about 2.5% for caregiving insurance. Those contributions are shared between employer and employee and both insurances are mandatory to have (with few exceptions, e. g. for soldiers).
