I don't think there is anything that compares with that in Cyprus. My FIL needed 24 hr care, which we could not give him... He was in the general, and then in the Hospice and then in what passes for a nursing home here.. It is certainly not easy for the elderly here needing 24 hr care

If one had a half decent pension or some capital behind them are there any decent care facilities available for those in their dotage?

The problem is that you have included the word Decent in your question.. We looked at a number of care homes here for my FIL. The two best ones still fell short of what you would perhaps expect in the UK..
The one we finally chose was one in Polemi village where we lived.

Social Care used to be non-existent in the UK except for those who were wealthy or charity places for the destitute.

Over decades, society changed where extended families didn’t live in the same localle nor felt a commitment to look after elderly relatives.

Social Care is now necessary in the UK bubmassively underfunded. There needs to be a social care tax.

In Spain, they Cae decades behind us but even there it’s now needed. Greece and Cyprus aren’t quite at that stage yet.

At a Much less rate than putting the elderly relative into a home.. The home carer mentioned by Yioula is usually a 'live in' carer..
