Amazon UK with UPS Delivering

Post by Mike J »

Whilst an old hand with Lakeland and a few other UK stores delivering to Cyprus this is my first Amazon order.
My small ( two paperbacks) order is at the moment taking a well deserved rest at Cologne airport but is due here tomorrow and both Amazon and UPS confidently say it will be on a truck for home delivery on Tuesday morning.
My question is obviously will it , as no other courier company delivers to downtown out of the way Paramali. Normally I get a phone call saying come and pick it up. So my further query is as Amazon did not asked for my phone number when I placed the order, unlike the other suppliers, but merely my address and given that UPS isn't even UPS here but a company called AirTrans Express , what chance do you give me that I'll be sitting on my veranda on Tuesday evening enjoying the first of my books ?

Cheers, Mike

You will be reading. UPS will deliver rapidly. On one occasion, I ordered from Amazon early afternoon one day and UPS rang my doorbell at about 16:00 the following day: a tad more than 26 h from ordering to delivery.

Ups have always deliver to my door , and they come in a proper brown UPS van .

Regards amazon and your phone number , when you add a Cyprus delivery address it will ask for the phone number .

Many thanks for all the re-assurances, I'm now really looking forward to seeing the UPS van coming up the road on Tuesday afternoon and enjoying the first book that evening. Will definitely be lording from Amazon again so saving a trip into Limassol.

My wife relies on Amazon ebooks now and a kindle app on her tablet. She swore for years she wouldn't, but once she took the plunge she loves it. I dread to think how much she's spent on books over the last couple of years...

Received a phone call at 9 a.m. yesterday telling me my parcel was ready for collection at their office in Limassol. "Don'y you deliver ? " I asked " oh yes but not until tomorrow afternoon " was the reply.
As luck would have it I was going to Limassol at lunchtime so went to pick it up. For any would be collectees my advice is don't.Firstly there is nowhere to park on the road outside or nearby and it is a chaotic little office clearly hopelessly overtaken by the amount of Amazon business they now do. There were parcels in every nock and granny . Mine we found after a long search and so I did manage to sit on my veranda last night and start to read my Golden Age mystery novel "The Daughter of Time" by Josephine Tey.
I too am an avid Kindle reader but have started to collect Golden Age books by buying them secondhand on Amazon. Interestingly Colin Dexter in "The Wench is Dead" copied Tey's approach in this book, with Morse, like Inspector Grant, Tey's detective , stuck and bored in an hospital bed.

Ups said they were delivering last Thursday to Peyia. They said they had. They never and never called. They then said they tried on Tuesday and didn’t then again today and didn’t. No calls from them.

Can I just give a shout for the Tremithousa Bookshop? We have a huge stock of up to date books, we keep no fiction books older than 2002 - soon to be no older than 2004 - in the shop.

We also have a bookcase dedicated to 2017, 2018 and 2019 books.

Finally - we operate a reservation service, let us know the book you're looking for and we'll give you a call the minute it comes in.

All proceeds to Paphiakos Animal Welfare.

So is it essentially a Charity Shop that specialises in books? If so I can add it to the Charity Shop section of the directory.

Just let me have any contact information and the all important address.

In the past have used the Tremithousa Bookshop and it is really good. It is a set out like a Library, with the books on shelves in different categories
