Postcard from Cyprus 2

Post by Anarita John »

At the moment we have visitors so we have been out and about showing them places of interest around Paphos and further afield. We have had a trip to the beach at Ladies Mile, lunch at the taverna next to the fence with the RAF Base and swimming in the sea. Also been to Rimini restaurant twice on the daily deal where you buy a voucher for €10 and get a 50% discount off your meal and you can use it as many times as you like. It is valid for 4 people so brilliant if you have visitors.

Today we visited both Pano and Kato Lefkara. A lot of work has been done on both villages since our last visit. When we arrived there was a lot of very loud thunder and black skies in the distance.

Pano Lefkara. An interesting place to walk around. Few tourists around today.

The owner of this shop came from Liverpool and was a fanatical Liverpool supporter. We had lunch at his sister in laws taverna.

The church was signposted in the village and I followed the streets down to it. I was rewarded with lovely views down the valley towards Kato Lefkara.

A lot of buildings have had work carried out on them but there are some, such as the hotel, which need to be reopened after being modernised.

We had lunch at this taverna which we really enjoyed. A toasted Panini and delicious homemade cakes. Whilst here, the heavens opened.

We then made our way down to Kato Lefkara. Again, buildings have been renovated but there is still lots of work to be done.

The church was beautiful inside. However, we could not understand why some of the faces on the icons were covered with lace material.

A lovely village to walk around and less commercial than Pano Lefkara.

Thanks Jim. Today they are going to The Mall. Needless to say I am staying at home. Have even volunterred to empty the washing machine and hang out the washing to get out of going.
There are some lovely villages in this area and in villages to the right hand side of Troodos.
When we were in Kato Lefkara we past some houses that were fenced off and signs were up stating No Trespassers. Do not know the history of these houses but a warning to others of some of the dangers of buying in Cyprus.

Our visitors have now returned to the UK having enjoyed a fortnight in Cyprus. Amazing how they enjoy the things we loathe, such as shopping at the harbour and the mall. We have however, enjoyed days at Ladies Mile Beach. In fact, we were there last Monday when Troodos had the hail and snow storms, and we could hear the thunder and see the black clouds in the distance. At one point, we thought we were going to get soaked but the storm missed us.

Our Daily Deal Voucher for Rimini has been extremely useful and we have eaten there three times in the last fortnight. With the half price deal it makes a three course meal with drinks the same price as a village taverna meal and is brilliant if you have guests as it covers four people.

We also took our visitors to Michael's Taverna (Agios Epifanios Taverna) by the army camp, Gabriel's in Kouklia and the Perasma Tavern at Timmi. We also managed to get a daily deal voucher for Chloes2 which now has a new name, but is under the same management. Unfortunately, this deal is no longer available.
