Despite drought, no domestic water cuts for this year

Post by Paphos Life »

No water cuts to domestic users are likely this year or next but water for irrigation purposes will be reduced by around 30 per cent during the summer months as Cyprus faces a protracted drought, Agriculture Minister Costas Kades said on Wednesday....

That sounds an optimistic forecast perhaps considering the low level of most of the reservoirs. It may be OK in most towns in the Republic who are using desalination plants,
but how about Paphos? As far as I know there isn’t a desalination plant here. That’s until the new one is built.
Wonder if there is a plan ‘B’? Just in case....

I religiously follow the no washing of car principle. Besides, the rain did a lovely job anyway.

There may not be cuts for domestic users but farmers are going to be hit hard. I was chatting with the owner of fruit market in Coral Bsy who has been told he cannot water his crops.

Lloyd, I rarely wash the car out of laziness, not environmental awareness.

Besides, the amount of off-roading I do renders car washing a bit pointless.

But on the rare occasions I do, I agree, some of the car washes are obscenely good value for money.

Just wish there was also a ban which was enforced by local councils with a heavy fine added to the next water bill on those using hosepipes to water the pavements and roads in front of domestic properties.
