This sun cream has been voted the best in the world for a fourth year in a row

Post by memory man »

Protecting your children’s skin, as well as your own, is very important but it can be hard to know which sun creams are best.
So naturally, when we heard that one brand had been voted as the best sun cream for four years in a row we were interested.

The sun cream in question is from French dermatologist brand La Roche-Posay and costs £16.50 for a 50ml tube, which can be bought in Boots.
It was voted best in the world by Consumer Report magazine for the fourth time when put up against 72 other well-know skin protection products and brands.

When testing La Roche-Posay Ultra Comfort Cream’s UVA and UBV ray protection, the experts behind The Annual Sunscreen Guide Research found that La Roche-Posay’s product offered the best protection and coverage and awarded it a 100 per cent score.

This means that it lived up to its on-label SPF of 50+, unlike a third of the other samples tested for the research.
Consumer Report found 24 products that tested at less than half their labelled SPF number. Although this does not mean the products offer no sun protection, it does mean they offered less protection than the label suggests.
They also explained that sun creams that only contain titanium dioxide, zinc oxide or both as active ingredients tend to perform less well than those with avobenzone, which is the main ingredient in La Roche-Posay’s product.

According to the product description, La Roche-Posay Ultra Comfort Cream SPF 50 is best suited to those with sensitive skin who are prone to prickly-heat and regularly suffer from sun intolerance.
You should apply the product just before exposure to the sun and reapply it frequently and generously, especially after a swim or heavy perspiration and towelling.

I wonder (just out of interest) how much pharmacies in France charge for this home-grown product?

This sounds worth a look! I have found the best for face is Frezy derm, made in Greece. Strangely, I haven't seen any here. I bought it in UK. It was £25 for 50g, but it is like velvet and doesn't run off your face when it gets hot and sticky! Factor 50.

Not really Al, I thought you may be able to find the cost via the internet.
I have just allerted my daughter to this, and she agrees it is dear and her husband works at Boots so get's a discount.

It is a very long while since I ever used suncream... But.. I have had 2 bouts of skin cancer :-(

I'm with Trev in this instance, given the subject matter. You are far more likely to get your answer from Google.

If you were asking for the price in Paphos, then I could see where you were coming from, but France?

I use Riemans, its made in Scandinavia. It was recommended to m by my dermatologist. It also does very well in all the revues on Sun Creams. It comes in SPF 20, and 30. I have also seen it more recently I think in SPF 50
It comes in larger volume cans than the other one mentioned. Where it scores is that you only need to apply it very infrequently. As it is virtually waterproof it lasts virtually all day. Also once it has sunk in, takes about 20 mins, it doesn’t feel greasy or sticky.
I have used this brand now for several years and even in the Cyprus summer sun, I have never been burnt. Though saying that I never stay out for too long in direct sun usually retiring to somewhere more shady!
