I just hope this story is not true. Saw it on Steve's Eastern Forum and I am sure he won't mind me posting it here.

Re: Woman dies after amnulance crew refuse to take her to hospital
Somebody once told me that an ambulance crew can refuse to accept a patient, if they smell of alcohol.

This seems to tell a slightly different story:

Investigation of allegations in a daily newspaper newspaper about the refusal to transfer a 33-year-old to Paphos from an ambulance crew was requested by the Minister of Health Konstantinos Ioannou. (READ HERE)
The publication entitled "33-year-old Death: Refused to take her to hospital" beats a bell at the Ministry of Health. Based on the report, there are claims that the ambulance crew who was called refused to take the woman to first aid because of the fact that she had impurities on her trousers.
It is also reported that in a second call, the unfortunate 33-year-old was hospitalized with a private clinic ambulance.
What do the nurse and the rescuer of the ambulance say?
Officially they have not been placed and will not do so since they are explicitly prohibited by the Ministry of Health regulations.
However, PafosPress.com reports that the ambulance crew arriving on the scene, in the presence of a translator, attempted to relieve the unfortunate 33-year-old in the GN. Paphos, however, did not want that. The nurse said the same sources, took all the necessary actions and examinations as recorded in the Ministry of Health ambulance ambulance protocol. Please note that the Ambulance Call Coordinating Center beyond the above is also recorded the time of the call, the time of arrival and all actions taken by the crew.
Information from the Occupational Health Practitioners' Environment says the 33-year-old was half-naked and not dirty with pants as reported in publications. Earlier, the unfortunate young woman had vomited, eyewitnesses reported, while in a lousy state.
In the second call, an ambulance of the General Hospital of Paphos again and not a private clinic went to the scene and received the 33-year-old Ukrainian who was then transferred to the First Aid and Emergency Department where she had the required examinations, including CT.
Unfortunately, the young lady, after 1-2 hours, ended up in the hospital with liver cirrhosis with gastro-intestinal tract and the esophageal varicose rupture, according to Coroner Nicholas Charalambous, who carried out the humorous autopsy on her body.
However, the Minister of Health, in his belief, handled the issue today very personally and took all the actions to investigate the complaints while, as PafosPress.com is able to know, he already has a personal view of the event after he has been informed by all the sides.
