A deal with the US has a cost. May went there to invite US companies to come looking around the NHS. That may be the price not worth paying. Nothing about healthcare USA is enticing.... losing the NHS is a nightmare scenario that only Tory ministers would laud....

Trump will make a great President, agreed he's a bit rough around the edges but he's never been a corrupt career politician.
Every time I see the man on TV, even with poor press coverage, I think what a great man he is. The man is a hero to millions of Americans and they love his hatred of terrorists.
I'm sure he'll serve a second term.
I think the only people who do not like him are the limp wristed, leftie luvvies who get their panties in a twist over Brexit...but there are a few of them on this forum.

Mickey and Donald not doing such a good job of running America...

It seems we should have elected federal or Supreme Court judges to run our countries, they appear to know more about it...

But we must question the mentality of the POTUS when his team say this...

I know admin prefer our opinions instead of links....but when you have The White House blatantly lying or repeating untruths, you start to realise the established media that once researched stories before they published or indeed govts before they issued statements...would check their facts...

It's no wonder it's all going a bit ga ga...

Sadly my request for intelligent debate has fallen upon deaf ears.

Very good points, Lynsab.
I think Trump has learned from Putin. Don't bother to debate. Simply threaten, and lie.
If you get a journalist who disagrees, you shoot him. (just look how many dead journalists there are in Russia during the past half-dozen years.)
If you get a university that doesn't like you, close it down.

Are Berkeley students interested in debate or just violent protests if they disagree with someone? It would appear that free speech is only for those with a certain viewpoint.

Trumps response on Twitter: Donald J. Trump ✔@realDonaldTrump
If U.C. Berkeley does not allow free speech and practices violence on innocent people with a different point of view - NO FEDERAL FUNDS?

Actually in 1984, there would be no alternative truth. The whole point about doublethink was that you would believe exactly what you were told. So the "truth" was absolute.

True, however the term älternative truth" has certainly resonated with many -

Sales of George Orwell’s 1984 spike after Trump spokesperson presents ‘alternative facts’
http://news.nationalpost.com/news/world ... tive-facts
While the phrase “alternative facts” reminded many of the terms “falsehoods,” “lies” and “untruths,” it reminded many others of George Orwell’s dystopian, politically-charged novel “1984.”..

Indeed it has, and indeed it should.

Mind you, at one point the terms "colateral damage" and "friendly fire" were considered outrageous.

I seem to remember a post on CL from someone living in Germany telling exactly that, they were experiencing problems caused by immigrants rioting and looting shops, which was not being reported in the media.

Maybe that person was telling lies, but somehow I think not. Are we really to believe that politicians are honest all of a sudden.

A different angle on whether Trump is mentally ill -

Donald Trump's sleep deprivation impairs his diplomacy and could have serious consequences, says expert
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world ... 72086.html

To put it simply, sleep deprivation has a harmful impact on functions associated with the frontal lobe of the brain, such as alertness, attention, decision-making and cognitive processes....

No big deal. He's only got his finger on the nuclear button.
