From Polemi To Polis

Post by Dominic »

A couple of weeks ago I had an errand to run down in Polis. It was a clear, sunny day, so I took the camera and went the scenic route. Well, two scenic routes, as it turned out. So join us on this trip through the Paphos countryside....

I think some of the shots must have been taken when you were having your Easter lunch. I was quite surprised when you posted your pics. You can also see why I got confused over Sarama though. :)

The shots were taken on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th. I did the route which took in Goudi on Saturday, and on the 8th the whole family came and we went through Trimithousa.

This would explain the clear skies in the first half of the blog and the clouds in the second part.

Another amazing blog thanks, Dom! smashing photos and commentary, as always..

The Peristerona Gorge is one feature that I always wanted to walk, but never got around to actually doing. Is it possible, do you think? Thinking in terms of 3-4 people as a simple A to B walk, with motors in place at A and B before the yomp begins?

I've been investigating mysterious gorges Al, as a source of future blog articles. One problem I have found is that a lot of them tend to have a portion consisting largely of bamboo, which is snake heaven.

You can have a sneak preview of the new panorama section, and see one of them here:

I also need to do a blog of Avakas Gorge before it gets too hot.

As to your last Avakas Gorge comment, Dom, I spent many a day trying to source it's actual start point, up in them thar hills around Inea.

I never really succeeded, and suspect that there are three or more water courses in the hills, following the terrain and contours, all converging into one, the Avakas itself. In other words, I don't think there's a single definitave 'source' for it. What think ye?

Definitely multiple sources, but that's the nature of the Paphos region. It has a surface like a wrinkled prune in places.
