Nice flowers - which tree is it?

Post by cyprusmax47 »

After pruning back completely this tree two years ago there are plenty of flowers this year, right now. Any guess what tree it is?

I wonder what to do with all the fruits later in the year...

No it is not Louise, even when the flowers look a bit similar...

It reminds me of a plant (I wouldn't have called it a tree) I had in my garden back in the UK called impatiens, I doubt it is but thought I'd give it a go? :D

It is a tree, and it grows ca 4-5 m high within 2 years, until I prune it back again ..

Sorry Max, I wasn't saying I wouldn't call yours a tree, I meant that I wouldn't have called my plant a tree. The flowers were similar. What is it called?

It's quite funny, but in ancient times this tree had something to do with Aphrodite :)

Did you plant it, Max? I have been looking for a quince tree for ages but with no luck, any suggestions for a nursery here in Cyprus?

No, I didn't. I believe it is a bit late to plant now a new tree, depending whereabout you are living. Areas higher up which are another month cooler than down at sea level would be beneficial. In the past (>20 years) I bought plants many times at the nursery behind the main Papantoniou in town, which was a Gov. nursery and selling only plants produced in Cyprus and not imported from Holland for example.

You could have some little trees from side shoots growing in my garden, ca 40 cm high, if you want to have a go...we could meet next Friday morning at the parking of Lidl TOTK. Send me a PM if you are interested.
