You cant beat a Revolut prepay currency card. You can load it from any source (bank account, Debit card etc) and then choose an immediate transfer to another currency, then pay for the item, it sends you a text when used and the rate is far higher than the banks or exchanges,

www.xe.com 1 GBP =1.14669EUR

Do not forget the exchange commision charge Vic, if you use that outlet, AND do check the exchanged cash amount or change..

www.Transferwise.com also does a loaded credit card system, many of us here use their services.

As you might have seen in the news, we're inviting private groups of customers to get a TransferWise debit card by opening a borderless account with us, and we’d like you to be one of them.

With your borderless account you'll be able to hold and convert up to 29 currencies, get paid in AUD, EUR, GBP or USD with zero fees, and spend on your card in any currency, anywhere.

How to get your account and card: 1.Log in here on a desktop computer
2.Click 'Get started' on the Balances page
3.Set up your borderless account (just a few steps to create your profile and pick your currencies)
4.Once your account is set up, click 'Order my card' on the Balances page
5.Your card should be delivered in 3-5 working days
How the debit card works: •Spend in any currency worldwide with the real exchange rate
•It auto-converts your money with our low fees 0.35-1%
•Free overseas ATM for the beta phase
•Free overseas ATM up to £200 / month post-beta
•Currently for personal use only (business cards coming soon)
We'd love your feedback
Please tell us what you like, and don’t like about the product, so we can make it better. And if you run into issues, contact customer support.

This is a big moment for us, we're delighted to share it with you.

Thanks,
The TransferWise Team

Maybe Dom you can get this company to advertise with you?

We stopped using the shops by the harbour some time ago. The one we used to use has now gone, and the one opposite, short changed us once by twenty cy pounds and would not refund it. It also sold us some fake ciggies which were unsmokable.

Now both of us do not smoke, but if we did we would buy our ciggies from Theos, opposite the old Debenhams.

It is worth getting a UK zero fees credit card and debit card if you can. Periodically, the Zero Current Account is available from Santander. It is not available at the moment. We have held one for over ten years and enjoy zero transfer fees on all transactions in Cyprus. We withdraw cash from the bank ATMs, not the ones that are cropping up outside shops (the Euronet ones) and deposit the money in our BOC account. We get the official exchange rate but no charges.

The Santander Zero Credit Card is still available. We use this for all our shopping and meals out in Cyprus and again there are no fees and you get the official exchange rate. There is nothing to stop you pre loading it with the amount of money you will spend in Cyprus and use it to draw out cash from a bank ATM. That way you would avoid any interest payment on the cash withdrawal plus you get the official exchange rate, which is usually 2cents higher than at the harbour.

Of course, you need to be a UK resident to open one of these accounts, but for us Swallows, they are ideal.
