Android smartphone help

Post by Uncle D »

Hi, hope somebody can help.
I was recently in the UK and one of my in laws gave me a Huawei Y5 android smartphone, it was with EE but that plan has finished.
I was hoping to put my (large) sim card into it but it is a micro sim. I am not really bothered about mobile internet as we have an ipad for that, just a phone with a better camera.
I have looked at Cyta's site and it only quotes plans, I dont really want a plan.
Is there a way around this?
I am really happy with my old Nokia, but i thought that I could use the smart as just a camera.
There is a micro SD card slot also.
Thanks in advance
David

Yes you can buy a PAYG sim from loads of places. I think the Cyta one cost €7 and came with €5 talk time which you could top up.

Or, take your old Sim along to whoever provided it to you in the first place and ask them for an updated one. That way, you can keep your phone number as well.

That's the answer. Presumably (?) you have a CY sim card of some sort. If it's a CYTA, I'm told that you can go into their shop and ask for a different sim card and hopefully all your contacts will move over with it.

It may be best to check that the Huawei is not locked to EE - if it is, you can get unlock codes off Ebay.

When it's all 'up and running' make sure you switch off mobile data in 'settings' if your phone deal doesn't include internet.
