Mobility scooters

Post by Belsmum »

Last year when we were in Cyprus, we saw some people using what looked like small folding mobility scooters. Is there somewhere in Paphos to hire one ?

We`ve looked at Peyia mobility but couldn`t see any small ones.

Thank you for that. I have seen some of the websites before, but I think we need to contact them as they don`t show folding scooters. My husband has one , but it would be a bit risky for it to be flown out, not trusting the airline not to damage it !!

On my last flight out LTN-PFO on easyjet, whilst in the disabled lift, I got a clear view of what the lads were doing at ground level, using the luggage conveyor belt up into the hold of the A320.

I could also see what the two guys inside the hold were doing, at the receiving (low headroom) end. It was a class act, and I gave them all a silent round of applause...

The LAST items they send up the conveyor belt are the 'delicate' folding items, like kiddies prams, pushchairs. Then folding pushchairs etc. I could see these all being stowed carefully in a dedicated area by the cargo door in the ubderbelly, on a 'last on - first off' basis.

Was highly impressed by that experience, I must say! So, in my honest opinion, Belsmum, don't think about NOT taking hubby's fold-up scooter with you in, in the hold! It will be fine, honest...

Talk to your operator / airline when booking, and you'll no doubt get a surprise (if you ask nicely). They might carry your scooter in the hold for FREE both ways (on account of disability). AND it might be ready for you on the tarmac at both ends when you alight from the plane. How cool would that be?

You can also request Special Assistance at the time of booking (wheelchair personnel) who fast track you through security, passports, etc, straight to your gate, (then on the aircraft) remember! This includes the person (chaperon) who is with you.

May your journeys go well. AL :)

Thank you Al. Easyjet sometimes get bad reviews about things, but that sound promising. I`m going to check with our insurance to see if it`s covered then it will put our minds at rest.
