Your Circumstances Post the Vote

Rather than tag this onto my previous post I thought it should merit its own thread. Basically, have you personally suffered any effect as a result of the vote made nearly 2 years ago on our future relationship with the EU & the rest of the World? I, and my close family, haven't seen anything that could be classed as a change as a result of the vote!

Well, the drop in sterling cost us about €30,000, in 2016. And that was predicted.

Not much. A small drop in my UK pension, which is only about £15/week, anyway! Fortunately, I do have other pensions which are not in GBP.

I base my budgets always around 1.25 which is an average and natural level. 1.40 was artificial, as was 1.01

We are still 15% or so down, due to brexit

Funny that you can't answer a straight question with a straight answer! I asked "have you personally suffered", you then go on to answer on behalf of the UK in most of your paragraphs?

You also manage to use "if" & "will" in the same sentence and yet state "given that Brexit has not yet happened"!

Finally, maybe you should go back & read my question again, I never asked "have you personally suffered any effect as a result of "Brexit""

Let's get this exchange rate rubbish clarified shall we? In Dec 2008 the £/euro was 1.05, and in Jul 2015 it was 1.43 ............... neither had anything to do with Brexit!

So in 2008 everyone was being stuffed if they were being paid in Sterling but in 2015 it was bonanza time! Now it's around 1.14, not great but a lot better than 1.05 I think you'll agree!

I have been working in international business since 1976 and the pound has been moving up and down against currencies all the time, it is something true business men learn to live with!

Once Brexit finally happens & all the uncertainty disappears (apart from the usual day to day trading uncertainty that is) then the pound will start to strengthen, whether it reaches 1.25+ & for how long who knows?

Oh come off it. If you can't see the impact that the referendum had on the exchange rate, there really is no point having a discussion.

Of course the referendum had an effect on the exchange rate but its not the only factor by a long way. If that was the case then we wouldn't have seen the plunge in 2008 when a referendum wasn't even a blip on the horizon?

If you were an international business man and cannot grasp that Brexit has had an effect on exchange rates and other factors, mainly because of uncertainty at this stage..... dearly me.... I’lll leave you with this....

Read it many times and still doesn’t say anything other than you think exchange rates naturally go up and down and brexit, by implication, isn’t a factor.

You must really be stupid as I have said that exchange rates do go up and down because of a number of factors, and the referendum (not Brexit as it has not happened yet!) is one of those factors!

I have no problem with people disagreeing with my views and I have no problem with their responses providing they are accurate ............. so far 2 posters haven't been accurate (Jimgward & H(i-told-you-so)C have misquoted me, I could include you in that group as well if I wanted to, just look back at your posts!

If you want to throw bricks at a glass house then you have to expect them coming back, I have no problem with that just don't expect me to lie down!
