US and EU expel scores of Russian diplomats in response to UK nerve attack

Post by P-villas »

How many Russians will Cyprus expel? :D :D
But they’ll expect solidarity when it comes to Turkey violating their oil & gas fields

Russia has been a good friend to Cyprus over the years, why on earth would they expel Russians? as for the gas fields its Turkey whos violating every law of the sea, solidarity dosnt come into it, respect of International law does.

Of course solidarity comes into it, that’s why 16 other EU countries have now shown solidarity with the UK together with the USA.
As for respecting international laws, do you honestly think that Russia does ! Perhaps you could ask the Salisbury couple or Alexander Litvinenco’s wife!

Out of curiosity, what is your take on the USA's bombing of Laos and Cambodia during the Vietnam war?

Hudswell wrote: Mon Mar 26, 2018 10:37 pm Dominic, I think the key word in your question was "War" ....last time I looked the UK was not at war with the Russian State....you can be as clever as you like...It doesn't really suit you as I think you are (and Jim) are intelligent individuals...an almost passive defence of what Russia has "probably" done, whilst opinion supports the findings of the UK is beginning to wear thin...don't you think?
I was actually asking you a very straight forward question. A straight forward answer would have been nice.

Happy in Cyprus wrote: Tue Mar 27, 2018 2:14 am On a News at Ten clip towards the end of last week, the interviewer turned to Anastasiades at an EU meeting and asked him what he thought about Putin and the Salisbury poisoning. The Pres was noticeably ambivalent and non-condemnatory. Whatever the wrongs of this case, Russia and Cyprus do enjoy a warm relationship and it was the Russians who, back in the day, lent the Christofias-led administration over €4 billion, much of which still has to be repaid. So an understandably diplomatic reply, despite what Anastasiades might think privately.

Silly me I thought there were 28 EU states, but only 16 are expelling Russians, so there must be another 12 that are in hock with the Russians... you learn something new every day?

I think there will be more expulsions to come (e.g. from Eire) but I do not expect that Cyprus will join in. Just wondering what will happen when and if Turkey interferes with the gas exploration taking place. Will Cyprus expect support from the UK and EU? Diplomacy is a two way street.

Turkey is already interfering with Cyprus's legitimate gas exploration and the EU has already stated, that what Turkey is doing is unlawful and should stop....As Turkey is breaking every law of the sea, I would imagine its the UN who should speak out now.

Hudswell wrote: Tue Mar 27, 2018 8:30 am Dominic, And it what way was it relevant to the thread? You may have well asked about the Dresden Bombing, or Hiroshima, the use of Agent Orange....the Sinking of the French Fleet ordered by Churchill during WW2..or many of the perceived "atrocities" carried out by numerous nations over the generations....And HIC I tend to agree....Cyprus are in "hock" to the Russian State and have to be extremely "diplomatic" as you put it in its dealings with them...which I suggest is not an ideal situation, and certainly not a healthy one.

"perceived atrocities". No, the bombing of Cambodia and Laos was an actual atrocity, using WMD that killed 100,000s, not a weapon that targetted 2 people.

I'm not condoning the Russian State, if it was them that did it, but if you are trying to accuse them of using WMD and express outrage at the event, you really need to put it into some perspective.

So was I, even in the same mob as Hudswell, and on active service in The Canal Zone. At the time, I was proud to serve King and Country but, even then, I had questions when I saw how we treated the fellahin. But I rarely mention my service, because it gave me the background to slowly evolve into passive pacificism through thinking, reflecting and using my noodles, rather than taking arms against a sea of troubles.

Given the recent track record concerning truth and WMD I choose to be cautious in believing what the government have to say without proof.
