If you think that the UK has the most beautiful countryside bar none, you should get out more. By that I am not saying that UK does not have beautiful countryside.Hudswell wrote: ↑Sun Mar 25, 2018 8:06 pm Given the day...the UK has the most beautiful countryside bar none...and given the changes weather patterns are going through...who knows...Spring in Cyprus is exceptional...high summer is well..dammed hot...."Autumn" is wonderful...winter..short, sharp and for most of us...damp and cold...and I do agree with Dominic,,weather was a factor...but the draw was really the lifestyle..a slower pace of life and the culture....but sorry Dominic....the Cypriot Countryside, which is in places is stunning...overall is not a patch on the UK.

Re: Whether the weather be hot...
The UK countryside is exceptionally beautiful and we certainly plan to see much more of it since our return from Cyprus.
We didn't move to Cyprus for the weather, but it helped....
But when the weather is miserable in UK we can always go on holiday to warmer climates for some pleasanter weather.
Remember that when you're all whining about how hot it is in Cyprus in the summer! Especially those who run back to their UK domiciles because they can't stand the heat
On the other hand, we will be off to sunny Egypt in "flaming June" as it's always been a favourite time for us when the temperature is hitting above 40 Celsius
It's a bit wet here today but we've spent the last 2 days sitting outside reading in the back garden after returning from our holidays in Benidorm.
We've saved going food shopping for today and if it continues to stay a bit grey, we may well head down to the bright lights of Blackpool and some afternoon singing and dancing at Ma Kelly's....
Ah yes, there's always something to do if the weather is iffy in UK. We're fully geared up for it. I'd forgotten that too during our many years outside it!
Edited to add: the sun is coming through again

You are the one with tunnel vision I am afraid. There are gorgeous places all around the World. You only have to look at a travel website to see that. Now, the UK has it's fair share of beauty, I don't think anybody would argue with that. But no list of the Natural Wonders of the World will ever be dominated by the UK. The whole world is a beautiful place.

Sorry Dominic, but I beg to differ, places such as Syria are certainly not beautiful at the moment, the whole world as I see it is obviously a different place to the one you see. England to me is the most beautiful place, that's my opinion, and I do get out ......... lots.

Not at all.... Nice to be able to explore new places for a change. We were often pissed off with Cyprus when the ferry got cancelled and being unable to get to places we wanted to reach without having to fly backwards in time first....
When did you last go to Benidorm or Ma Kelly's?

I went to Benidorm in the 70s it was a **** **** then and its gone downhill since, we stayed at the Los Pelicanos, where the tv series is filmed around the pool now, probably the worse Hotel Ive ever stayed at, watered down drinks and inedible food....if drunken yobs drinking themselves into a coma, etc etc, throwing up all over the place, or watching a show featuring Sticky Vicky ..is your thing...then it must be heaven on earth,PhotoLady wrote: ↑Tue Mar 27, 2018 1:48 pm Not at all.... Re: Whether the weather be hot...
So you haven't been since the 70s?
* The Sol Ocas/Pelicanos is only used to film around the pool - correct! We went inside, the hotel and food looked fine.
* We didn't seen Sticky Vicky - she retired a number of years ago and so did her daughter who followed her into the act.
* We took my 77yr old Mum with us for her first visit to Benidorm.
* She loved it!
* We went to see 2 or 3 different shows every evening for 2 weeks in various showbars.
* No drunken yobs throwing up all over the place.
* Our drinks weren't watered down.
****Don't believe everything you see on the telly..... there's something for everyone in Benidorm.
Oh, and the beaches - did I mention the beaches?
They even have lifeguards - in the winter

Please read my posting in full and take off those blinkers. No need for me to expand further, Dominic has said all that needs to be said.

Re: Whether the weather be hot...
ronk, we had some sunny days but the wind was quite cool... storm Hugo was on his way!
Very much like Cyprus in winter, if you find a sheltered spot out of the wind you will still come home with a suntan.
There were people on the sunbeds on the beaches on quite a few of the days, although not quite the weather for it in my book but you know what the tourists are like in winter!
As yet, my bones haven't lost the Cyprus feeling and they're not ready for being exposed unless it's arms and shoulders in anything above 25 degrees Celsius.
This was a winter break with my mum, she can't take extreme temperatures nowadays - hence why we tend to go off somewhere with her in March but not too long a flight.
Roll on June - Egypt here we come!
Proper sunshine

I thought we were discussing the most beautiful places, not those that due to circumstances are suffering. By the way, if you forget the present situation Syria does have some beautiful places e.g Palmyra and the plains of North East Syria, which I have seen from the Iraqi side.Firefly wrote: ↑Tue Mar 27, 2018 12:41 pm Sorry Dominic, but I beg to differ, places such as Syria are certainly not beautiful at the moment, the whole world as I see it is obviously a different place to the one you see. I visited Syria a lot in a past life & there were many beautiful & interesting places to see .............. can't say how much war has ravaged these, though!

I think the German sunbed story has now exaggerated itself so much that the Brits have taken over and they actually are the ones reserving the beds.
Re: Whether the weather be hot...
Visiting Syria was always on my bucket list, really regret not making the effort before it turned into Hell, so heartbreaking to see what is happening to a country so rich in culture and history, and to its poor people.

Ah, we were lucky enough to be able to visit Syria and take a wander around the Cracs des Chevalier's fortress. An absolutely fabulous place but I dread to think how it looks now
Thank heavens for cameras and the memories they provide us with....

Yes the UK has some stunning scenery, but dosnt come close to Switzerland and Canada, in my opinion.
