Lovely photos. The new tavernas should be a big improvement both in hygiene and quality. Hopefully a good beach can be made. In Colwyn Bay, a new beach has been built as sea defences and sand was pumped from out at sea onto the beach. It has made an excellent beach which people use all year.

Cannot believe that mezzanine structure is still there, on what looks like the original timber supporting posts!

Over ten years ago, Andreas (Riccos) forbade me from climbing the back staircase up to it, saying it was weak and unsafe to walk on. Would have thought that this would be the very first structure he would have had demolished, tbh... It was only providing shade and weather protection for the ground level tables underneath, after all.

Took a trip to Ricco’s a few days ago looks like they are building a couple of new structures along the beach front.

An absolute toilet of a place. The sooner they bring in the bulldozers the better.

Were you ever there in it's heyday, William? When the only thing that Riccos Beach really lacked were decent toilets?

It also lacked friendly service, the staff treated you with contempt. What a dump. It should have been bulldozed years ago.

That's rather harsh! The owner (or shall we say Squatter) when not busy mixing cement and laying new tiles or pebbles features, would normally be found fast asleep in the afternoon outside under the shade. I don't ever recollect him serving me from behind his counter.

His wife did serve customers from the counter occasionally, usually friendly and smiling, but most of the time she was sprawled out on a settee watching TV or sleeping...

99% of the work there, cooking, serving, cleaning up, washing up etc, was done by their Fillipino slave girl (who probably lived in a shed out the back). I reckon she worked 15 hours a day, seven days a week there. Difficult to be friendly and smiling, when you're walking around like a half dead zombie...

As to toilet facilities at Riccos, most savvy regulars took a 100m stroll to the next door Atlantida Beach to use their superior beach WC facilities.

Fair enough!!

Al, most savvy people went up to the Antalida for everything.

It just riles me that this guy gets away with it every time.

No hygiene, no service, no taxes.

Totally agree with you William. Never even had a drink there but we saw them butchering goat carcasses on the back of a pick up truck last Easter and throwing the unwanted pieces into the field across the road.

I've known Ricos place for over 16 years. It has always been down at heel, lacking basic facilities, and offering rather surly service. But Brits like it. Why? Because it reflected that nostalgic view of Cyprus that they have, based on reality or otherwise. A place that they would never tolerate if it was in the UK.
But it could be a great place, if it had a decent building, proper facilities such as toilets, table service etc. But then, of course, people would moan that it had lost it's character.

Must admit it is a shit hole. Never ever bought out from that place. Although when we go down we take a cool bag with a few beers and pack lunch then wait for Rambo to turn up in his ice cream van. Best ice creams we have had. :D

Oh ye of little faith. Nothing beats a large cold bottle of Carslberg at Riccos beach, while doing your crossword under the shade, rolling a ciggy, and listening to the Mediterranean waves lapping in on the pebble beach just 20m away...

Not to mention the ducks and geese taking their daily swim!

Pure heaven to me! AL :D

Ricco’s Beach is the only place along that stretch past Atlantida with so many trees - each and every one planted by Mr. Riccos.
