Pafos Artist 2017 opening a flop
Re: Pafos Artist 2017 opening a flop
I wouldn't call it a shambles. Kennedy Square certainly isn't. It just isn't finished yet.

I am sure it will be much better when the tourists suppose to flock in
after Easter... we are in Cyprus where it is always a little bit late (siga, siga).
Read that and I think it is true:
People stop cars in the middle of road to greet each other; they stop on the way to meetings to take a swim in the sea; they always have time for a genuine smile. They pay attention to each person as an individual. There is no rush. Cypriots are grateful for the gifts of nature and they enjoy them. They are warm, loving, and friendly people who take things easy. It is impossible to rush things here in Cyprus, and it’s an attitude we embrace wholeheartedly at ZENING. We care, we are responsible, we are attentive, but we are in Cyprus.

Absolutely true and I love it. I wish some people stop moaning all the time about everything. Also I'm sure it will all be beautiful when it is finished. And no.... no shambles at all.cyprusmax47 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 02, 2017 9:58 am I am sure it will be much better when the tourists suppose to flock in

As I've said before, the regeneration of Paphos wasn't ever connected to the 2017 Capital of Culture. Yes the timing wasn't the best but the opportunity of huge funding to start the projects when they did could not be missed. It is not a case of 'they didn't finish in time' - they are in fact to schedule, are ongoing and should be finished this year. We will be left with, in my opinion, a fabulous city.

Turning left at the end of the pedestrian area is a mess, I grant you, as it is clearly nowhere near finished there.
But to me, a shambles would be chaos. This is delayed, but I wouldn't say it is chaotic.
I would agree though, it does need to be finished before the tourists arrive. Otherwise it will be chaos.

Hear hear Mr Max! Thank you for summing up so well the joy of Cyprus. Just wonderful, not always perfect but who wants perfection huh. Well said.cyprusmax47 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 02, 2017 9:58 am I am sure it will be much better when the tourists suppose to flock in

@ Hudswell
I don't care if the wording is from Zening or other people. Fact is that the Cypriot Lifestyle is completely
different from Middle Europeans. I lived 35 years in Polis area and realized that the last generation changed
a lot towards money orientated ( and there is more money nowadays) but I would not change it with Switzerland,
Germany or Italy were I also lived in the past. It is still nice here...

We all have our Cyprus experiences I guess. All I know is when I read that quote, it summed up "my" Cyprus. I don't really care who wrote it!
Re: Pafos Artist 2017 opening a flop
Hudswell you're right, the Cyprus of today is not the Cyprus of Zening. Visitors may see it that way, but day to day living here is v different.
And I agree with your comments about the old town. I negotiate that area at least twice a week and it's hellish both for traffic and pedestrians. Like you I can see the long shot and am pretty sure the end result will be great, but at the moment it seriously is not!! I feel for the businesses, just like the businesses when they did the harbour area and then Poseidonous, utter chaos and zilch trade for them.
You're also right in saying it's not whingeing or complaining, just facts. Like the harbour and Poseidonous I'm sure it will be great in the end, but the interval is like ongoing toothache! Which is quite ironic, one of my weekly trips downtown is to the orthodontist with my granddaughter!

Many times, in fact they do it without the need for a coffee house. When we had an apartment for a couple of months in Paphos, while we got our house sorted out, I could walk to the port past yards, where old men would congregate in the evening to chat and play backgammon.
