That's a shame but thank you for investigating. I appreciate it.

I've seen you lay into Hudswell for being negative on other threads pertaining to Cyprus. Your comments are along the same line, so draw your own conclusions!

One of the benefits of a forum is surely that everyone can express their opinions! There is an ongoing debate as to whether public or private health treatment is best. Having lived here a long time, I have seen a big improvement in health facilities especially in the number of private hospitals and clinics. The best of them are a real asset adding to the choice of treatments and specialities available locally.Whether you go to the Gen. Hosp or go privately, I think that the General woukd be hopelessly overcrowded without the fact that some people are choosing to ‘go private’. This also applies to the ambulances, here again a choice exists.

People are giving the reason that the private ambulance knows where they live... that’s great if your at home when you need them

Nobody says it did. But if your reaction to anything positive is to turn around and say "yes but you are still shit" it is not exactly encouraging.

Hi Dominic,
Have you got a private agenda here. Usually you seem to be fairly impartial, but on this question it doesn’t seem this way as you are criticsing anyone who tries to say anything which disagrees with your view.
Although currently I don’t have a subscription for a private ambulance, I do think that there is room for this service. Undoubtably, their ambulances are carrying considerably more life saving equipment which as Lloyd rightly says if you are having a heart attack would probably save your life since treatment can be started immediately, instead of having to wait to reach the A&E at Paphos Gen. The private ambulance carries a para medic and an experienced trauma nurse. The state hospital ambulance carries a nurse, the nearest will do and a driver who may or may not be just that, not medically qualified. In the event of a bad accident,as happened to a neighbour of mine who fell off a ladder on to a tiled floor while decorating at home, when the state ambulance arrived they had no equipment to carry him as a trolley wasn’t practical to use. So.since the nurse couldn’t lift the patient, other neighbours were summoned to help lift him up to the ambulance. It was unknown if he had damaged his back/ spine in his fall. But he was in a lot of pain. They had no body boards or even a neck brace, so were forced to give him a ‘firemans lift’ which was very painful to the patient and could have caused considerable further damage to him. Fortunately, his hospital X-ray later showed severe internal bruising but no fractures.

I have no private agenda whatsoever. I don't care if people use private ambulances or public ambulances. I really don't. Spend your money on whatever you want as long as it is legal.

I just think if somebody has had a decent service from a business, any business, they should be allowed to say so without having their opinion torn to shreds.

This thread wasn't a debate on the ambulance service. It was somebody posting a positive experience of the service they received. I don't have an agenda at all. I'm just fed up with people being so negative all the time.

By all means, God forbid, if somebody has a bad experience with an ambulance, please do start a thread and post about it. I really mean that. Nothing retrospective though. ie if it happened 5 years ago, don't start a thread. And if somebody else posts on that thread saying that it was an isolated incident and the service is brilliant etc, then I shall come down on the side of the person who started with the negative experience, and support their right to relate their bad experience.

If you think that is a private agenda, then so be it. I just consider it fair play.

I have extracted the incorrect posting and the associated comments. Please, if you have either positive or negative information to impart, make sure you know 100% that it is factual. If you aren't directly involved, you will not know this.

A little earlier there was a post which indicated that there was an incident at TLC Private School where the Evangelismos ambulance was called to attend to a sick child. The post indicated that the response time was 45 minutes and that the school received a second call asking for directions. As Principal of TLC Private School, responsible for the welfare and safety of all our students, I was made aware of the incident and can report that the ambulance reached the school, sirens blaring, in just over five minutes and that the crew were exemplary in the care of the child who, thankfully, had nothing serious wrong with him. Another spurious posting but one that harms a service that potentially saves lives.

To save anybody from asking, I have checked that the above account originated from the domain associated with TLC. It is a genuine account, and I would like to thank the Principal for taking the time to clarify the matter.

I was aware that the ambulance in question was NOT Evangelismos. That is their current provider, as the principal says. I never said it was Evangelismos, people are just jumping to that conclusion.
This works both ways. My post said NOTHING about Evangelismos and I'm not too happy that it is being said it did. Perhaps everyone should check their facts, not just me.

I can confirm that no ambulance company names were mentioned in Bograt's original post.

I am amazed by the direction this thread has taken. By all means choose whether you wish to pay for a private ambulance service (which may be staffed by paramedics) or whether you wish to use the service the state offers. For some it will be a matter of economy, and for others there will be different reasons. I do wish that those who constantly criticise Cyprus, and what it offers (or what it can afford to offer), would not hijack a post that was meant to be helpful to others.

It would be marvellous if Cyprus had the most efficient and marvellous health service in the world, but it doesn't.
