Max's Crystal Road Trip
Max's Crystal Road Trip
Today Max takes us on a road trip around the Paphos district, to look at some of the fine crystal formations you can find by the roadside. He also shows you a nice vineyard where you can stop for a break and sample their wares...

Re: Max's Crystal Road Trip
Thank you Max lovely to see the pictures of where I used to live (Kathikas) and my favourite winery too ( Tsangarides) and the lovely Angelos!
Re: Max's Crystal Road Trip
Thank you for a great blog. I might try this in April. Can it be done without a 4x4?
Re: Max's Crystal Road Trip
Yes, it is a road trip. The "dodgiest" bit is getting to site #1, but even that is fine for all vehicles.
We were on the hills behind Site #1 a few days ago, photographing orchids. We passed through it, an took a couple of shots.
The first one shows an idyllic scene. There is even a nature information board, in Greek, so that the locals can appreciate what they are viewing.
The second one is the same view, taking 30 paces backwards.
Fortunately, Max's crystals are before all this crap. You won't have to walk through this.

A smashing blog thanks, Max (and Dom). Beautiful photos and scenery, as always.
A shame about the fly-tipping found... As for the safari tours, they should be be teaching the Country Code! Take only photos and leave only footprints...

Re: Max's Crystal Road Trip
It is quite important that it is a nice day as without sunshine the crystals don't look as nice. All roads are tarmac or concrete, but sometimes tricky to find....

Dominic, Could you enlarge the pic with the nature information board that one can read it? PleaseDominic wrote: ↑Sun Feb 25, 2018 12:37 pm Yes, it is a road trip. The "dodgiest" bit is getting to site #1, but even that is fine for all vehicles.

Thank you Dominic for the enlarged sign. Translating the Greek text I could not find anything that these Gypsum crystal formations were mentioned there, but perhaps I missed that part. It's more about the Mavrokolympos dam area and vegetation etc...and not geology which is a shame as I believe that many people are interested in that as well when discovering the nice countrysides of Cyprus.

Thanks also for the winery recommendation - I use to buy white wine from Fikardos as they seem to win lots of prices, taste well and are very reasonably priced. I will now definitely give the Tsangarides Winery a try very soon though.
Such a shame that I cannot take bottles back to Qatar (they are more strict than Bahrain or Oman are when it comes to bacon and booze...).
