who I would suggest care not a jot for Cyprus, but rather the money it can make out of it.

So buying a luxurious villa (in order to get citizenship) and mooring their yachts (e.g. @€18,000 per annum) is making money out of Cyprus. I don't think so. I think the opposite is more closer to the truth. OK I accept that using Cyprus as a financial base is of use to Russians in the same way that Brits did on a smaller scale. I think you will find that Russians see Cyprus more of a bolt hole in case Russia goes t*t* up. Same with China.
Why criticise people for securing their future? Wouldn't you do the same if you were in the same situation?

And I would suggest the pull for British Retired Expats was the low rates of tax....Cyprus's colonial past, the weather, a common language...three pin plugs and they drive on the right! In short familiarity...well apart from the weather!
