Police in Paphos were investigating a burglary on Saturday in which cash and valuables worth €364,000 were taken from a villa in Kouklia.
The villa is rented by a Russian businessman, 44, who reported to police that it had been broken into. Investigators determined that the perpetrator or perpetrators had breached the wooden kitchen door.
The valuables were not insured.
Also Saturday, Paphos police said a holiday home in Kissonerga had been broken into between February 10 and 16 and various items worth €6,500 were stolen.
The case was reported by the owner, a Nicosia resident, who reported that two hunting weapons, his stamp, coin, paper currency, and sword collections, as well as electrical appliances were gone.
Officers found that the thief or thieves had entered through the bedroom’s aluminium balcony door, which was closed but unlocked.
The house had an alarm, which was not in operation and there is no insurance coverage.
A security camera system was found destroyed, police said.
At Coral Bay meanwhile, the resident of a hotel reported that the safe in his room was stolen along with his wallet, id card, three credit cards, two car keys worth €700, and €30 in cash, which were inside.

No sympathy! Keeping such valuables in a house here is asking for trouble. Not insuring them is idiotic!

I would like to put the thieves against a wall and shoot them.
However I agree, no house insurance is madness.
We have always had house insurance but do not keep any where near that amount of valuables.
If you can afford valuables of that amount but won't shell out 150 Euro a year ( or whatever ). I agree with Devil, idiotic.

Yes indeed, cream quackers! We have house contents insurance which cost us €185 extra. But well worth it for peace of mind.
There seems to be many house robberies at the moment, very bad news,
When we used to come to Cyprus 10 years or so ago for a holiday you could leave your door unlocked. Not now.
Amos.

Is not a visible alarm system an invitation to thieves that you have something worth stealing? We have a neighbour who has made his house as impregnable as Fort Knox and he is the only one who has had an attempt at burglary, albeit that it was not successful but only because of Neighbourhood Watch.

The basic contents insurance policy is just that - basic. So if you do have anything of value you have to get it valued and then pay an additional premium which could work out considerably more.

Crime is on the increase every day in the paper there is some House burglary or kiosks being robbed
The criminals always seem to know which house to break into for these large amounts of cash and jewellery I understand that burglary has risen substantially at Aphrodite Hills in recent times.......I thought that they had security but saying that the last time I saw security chaps going around all they did was go Scan something on the gate Post !!!
