Comment on this keving, not the nonsense you read on Facebook or MSN.Wallace wrote: ↑Tue Jan 31, 2017 8:59 pm My head is fine Jim.
The U.K. Exports more than 51b to the US, more than it exports to Germany.
The difference being that imports from the US are much lower than from Germany, which helps the UK.
The US is vital to the UK economy, now and in the future.

Re: Petition in support of Trump UK visit
It's been on the BBC website since early today and is in various national press in the UK.
The second petition is badly worded and the invite for a State visit premature imo.
Cheers

Suspect it will be later, rather than short term Steve, once the dust, if it does, settles.Steve - SJD wrote: ↑Tue Jan 31, 2017 9:56 pmIt's been on the BBC website since early today and is in various national press in the UK.

This is the Politics for Moderates section. Please respect each other while you debate, or have the debate in the main politics section.
To clarify, phrases like "Anybody who thinks... needs their head examined" belong in the main politics forum. Not here.
I do not object to the passion of the debate, just it's chosen location.

It's honestly not a problem Dominic, just the cut and thrust of a controversial subject.

I appreciate that. However, if I don't point it out here, somebody else will no doubt say "Well you let that through" at a later date. I have no objection to things getting heated. But let them get heated in the Political section.

Point taken, then move the thread to politics if you deem it necessary, but please don't bin it.

While our exports to the US is not bad, it makes almost no difference to the US economy, accounting for less than 1.5% of its imports. We are also way behind Germany and even France....
Overall, our balance of payments is terrible, with us still importing 1/3rd more than we export. A massive number. The Tories, since coming to power, despite promises, have totally failed to lower the deficit, increase our GDP or pay off debts.
Re: Petition in support of Trump UK visit
I'm not going to bin this thread, nor move it. The Politics for Moderates forum is still in its infancy, and it is still finding it's balance, so to speak.I think the occasional reminder will serve better than binning or moving every thread that gets a bit heated.
Basically, let's all play it by ear and see how it turns out.

Re: Petition in support of Trump UK visit
Sensible people have not blocked President Trumps visit some people have signed a petition which Parliament in its infinite wisdom has agreed to consider along with the one supporting such a visit. The invitation to a State Visit was made by Her Majesty the Queen and they do not come more sensible than that lady whatever one's views of Royalty are and when I last looked she was still the Head of State. The Prime Minister merely extended the invitation on behalf of Her Majesty.
As has already been said we have had worse people making State Visits to the United Kingdom. Incidentally I am no fan of President Trump anymore than I am of his opponent Hilary Clinton (America deserved better than either in my humble opinion) but he was elected President like it or not.
