Taxi prices from PFO

Post by PaphosAL »

Been in touch with a good friend of mine in Hampshire last couple of days, who is (spookily) flying out from LGW, half an hour behind me from LTN, both to PFO. We are both cabin bags only, so I won't be surprised to bump into him in arrivals.

He owns his apartment adjacent to and above the Agapinor Hotel in the old town. I was gob smacked when he told me his regular taxi driver would be charging him €30 for this trip. Is this the norm now? What about taxi rides from PFO to Coral Bay, Pegia, Tala and so on???

Cheers- AL :?

ps: would love to grab him onboard to my Mercury Direct txfr minibus, but I know they'll refuse, citing insurance reasons...

Taxi'ing around Town is not cheap AL unless you're stood at a bus stop in the summer months ........... then they're on you like flies & dirt cheap!

Al, we have used Stevie's Taxi's for airport transfers for a number of years now, and have just booked an airport pickup for next Monday evening for €27 to Universal, which is the same as the last two or three times we have used them. Always found them to be very reliable. No idea how their prices stack up against others but started using them after a personal recommendation and have never regretted doing so.

Thanks for all the input, folks! I've relayed all this info to my mate Barry (who usually uses Demos), so it's now up to him to decide.

To me, Sam's shuttle bus looked excellent @ only €10 each way to Paphos itself, providing it can get through the Taxi Mafia gauntlet @PFO safe and sound!

Taxis ? You need deep pocks for those !!

It depends on your arrival time, the bus is only € 1.50 into the Harbour and then either catch the local bus or get a cheaper taxi from the harbour area to the final destination

The bus stop is outside arrivals/departures main door @ the airport

The buses are not frequent enough or in anyway linked to the airline schedules! It's really not rocket science, but hey this is Cyprus!

I think I have to agree, Mike... A 6 + hour gap in the timetable either side of midday? You couldn't make that one up if you tried. Long siesta!

Over the course of a stay of a week or two, isn't it more cost effective, and convenient, to hire a car than keep paying taxi fares?

Last time I was in and around Paphos I used Rocky. I was very impressed with him and his vehicle. I pre booked him a few times and also contacted him at short notice and his service was faultless.

My friend Barry lives in the apartment block next door to the Agapinor Hotel up in the old town. He lives in Hampshire mainly, but goes out to Paphos three or four times a year for 3 or 4 weeks each time (BA from LGW), lucky guy!

He was impressed with Mirak's 613 timetable PFO / Karavella, and reckons he'll try this on his return trip in early March back to PFO, subject to further enquiries at the bus station just up the road from him.

For his outward trip on 15 Feb, I think his best bet will be the 612 to the harbour, then hop on a local bus up to Karavella. I'll email him and see what he thinks. Might be a longer trip time, but €3 compared to €30 ???

Thanks Ian, but we're only talking travel costs between PFO and Paphos (and back). My mate Barry owns his own 2 Bed A/C 3rd floor apartment next door to the Agapinor Hotel in the old town, with wonderful coastal views.

In the car park is his Land Rover Discovery. So the last thing he needs during his 3 week stay is a hire car, LOL!

For taxis I would definitely recommend Rocky.
I have used the airport 612 bus regularly as I travel with hand luggage, it has always been on time and it’s a 15 minute walk for me from the harbour to my apartment, which I enjoy after sitting on a plane for several hours.

Al I presumed you were picking up a hire car from G and K at the airport. If this is not the case let me know and I'll collect you both if possible.

Not this time, Jacs, as the minibus txfr both ways is included in the price of my Mercury Direct package holiday.

Although I will be visiting George and Kula, it will be just to say hello (and to try to persuade George to contact Dominic, with a view to placing a banner ad here on Paphoslife). I'm not intending to rent a car during this trip, as I need to focus on daily walking, in order to build up some strength in my tired old calf and thigh muscles again, ready for pulmonary rehab exercises twice a week at my local council gym a half a mile walk from where I live.

But that was a very kind offer on your part, Jacs- just shows what a heart of gold you have! You did warn me to knock the roll-ups on the head, but 15 years later, here I am, still puffing away...

All the Best- AL :D

Ah well, I did try Al!!

No worries about the lift, but let me know if you need transport whilst you're here, may not always fit in with school programme, but if I can help you know where I am x
