Problem trees

Post by Royle »

Hi all anyone know if there is anything i can do , my neighbour has some very tall trees in her garden including a date palm that is only one metre from my property and around 12metres high , other trees blocking views, she says its to expensive to take them down but i am concerned the large palm may topple onto my house, thanks.

Yes, speak to your local council. Though the trees are in your neighbours garden and not out on a pavement.

The local council might take an interest if the trees are dangerously close to overhead electric cables, or are blocking natural light reaching your property, Royle. I don't think the council will regard obstruction of views as important, though...

The fact your neighbour says they are too expensive to cut down and remove implies that she is at least amenable to the idea and must have looked into it previously. In this situation, it might be worth you considering offering to meet her half way with the tree surgeons bill?

The end results for you might prove to more than justify your financial contribution to the deforestation exercise next door!

Yes, Flossie that’s true, but from personal experience even if AIK come out with their ‘cherry picker’ the most that they do is to remove the branch or maybe branches which are closest to the power cables. This leaves the tree looking lop sided, and it continues to grow. Do AIK actually cut down trees themselves, I doubt it. That info applies to trees which are close to the road and outside your garden itself.

Used the helpline last spring that Flossie refers to. They were here within 2 days to trim a tree opposite us. Note though that they made it clear that they do not dispose of the waste.

East side they dont need calling out, I think there engineers report any trees touching the cables, came home one day to sea our two Fir trees with a big chunk missing where they were in contact with the tree, the branches were left stacked up on the pavement.

I lop our own trees when they get close to the wires.. But we are in a bungalow so the wires / trees are not that high..

Yes I agree with that. As it happens ours to the house are covered with insulation... But I still keep the loppers well away
