A tragedy that could so easily have been averted by installing a CO alarm . Mine comes out at the start of winter and sits near the sofa in the lounge

A stark reminder to all to install a CO alarm
Re: A stark reminder to all to install a CO alarm
Sad story indeed. But was the CO leakage from the boiler flue (back into a window) simply down to a lack of proper professional annual servicing?
From where I'm sitting in my office now, looking towards the M1 motorway 200 metres away, I see three 2 bedroom Aldwick Housing Association houses that have all had their CH upgraded a few years ago with modern combi boilers in the front kitchen.
The boiler flue exits between the top of the kitchen window and the adjacent front door, then goes up for 1m, terminating below the bedroom and bathroom windows. When their CH is running, I see huge clouds of vapour swirling around the fronts of their houses. That cannot be right, surely?
The flue on my combi boiler (installed first floor airing cupboard) goes straight up through the loft and out through the pitched tiled roof near the chimney. A much safer arrangement, IMHO...
