Illicit streaming highlights cost of legal viewing for Cypriot consumers

Post by Paphos Life »

WHEN hundreds of television sets in Cyprus went blank, people first wondered what it was that went wrong. Perhaps they checked their innocuous device that so cheaply allowed them to view hundreds of channels they technically hadn't paid for....

What is Cyprus, where rules are broken all the time, going to gain from this? Even Cypriots stream.

The Law is in place, so when someone ie Nova make a complaint that the law is being broken, the authorities have to investigate, the Irony is many many posters on this forum and others call for the Police to crack down on all matter of things, motoring offences etc etc, when the Police do crack down on illegal activities they still moan...

I never started subscribing, but I cannot see CYTA getting the Police to knock on doors of all those expats who do.
They wouldn't have the resources or inclination to do so, anymore than they enforce road traffic laws.
Any doors knocked on will be those of the various providers, as they did in Larnaca last week.
Of course they might surprise us all and round-up all the users also, that would indeed be interesting!
The user would say "he told me it was legit etc etc". One word against the other.
What about in Spain, where there are (I gather) some 2.5 million Expat Brits)?

I would imagine the pubs etc would be low hanging fruit.

What they can do is block it, my lad has a paid sub in the UK, every time premiership football is played..his internet provider put a block on the stream, he has got round this by using a VPN.

The article does state Cyta has 500 lined up . Will they be knocking on my door . :o

"Cyprus, Cyta has located around 500 persons who have been using illegal devices that will be called to provide statements to police, Stylianou said."

Makes good sense!
