UK TV - is THIS the answer?

Post by exodus »

One of our British Expat neighbours has uninterrupted TV from the UK via the Internet.
He uses an "Amazon" TV stick and a VPN.
He says he has had no problems.
Is this the answer to all the recently reported problems I wonder? No MAG Box, Dreambox, or dodgy local subscription.

Whether it is via a fire stick + VPN, MAG, or whatever, the situation is the same. You are at the mercy of a supplier, many of whom may be 'fly-by-night' organisations and all may be classed as of doubtful legality, subject to courts catching up with technology (possibly excepting CH, B and NL, but, even there, is your supplier stable and acting legally?).

Are the BBC iPlayer, ITV I Player, 4OD, etc etc 'fly by night' suppliers?
For Happy in Cyprus - many thanks for that link.

No that are NOT flybynite. But you are meant to have a UK Tv licence for the BBC. The BBC and ITV players need a VPN or proxy to view from outside the UK.
Kodi and appropriate paid subs still working very well.

Well I did report that my neighbour is using a VPN with his Amazon TV stick.
I don't know if he has a UK Licence.
Are you saying that if he does, his viewing is 'Legal'?
Just curious.

No its just that depending upon your system the BBC may ask if you have a licence. all you do is say YES.
To use some of the iPlayer services and depending upon the device you may need to enter a UK postcode.

I could be wrong but as far as I am aware the UK tv License is for the property in the UK where your tv is so I don't think the license would cover you for Cyprus.

Correct Poppy.
But the players just ask
"Do you have a TV Licence."
Yes or No
Hit Yes and it allows you access.
Hit NO and you are denied access.
Most people hit YES
