If its a Cyprus based service, then its only a matter of time before they get their collar felt.

When we first came to live in Cyprus we bought an android system using Kodi and had nothing but problems with it so went down the Magbox/provider route which was far superior. We are now back with our android for the foreseeable future.

We paid our Magbox provider up front knowing it’s a chance you take and we have had 2 years problem free viewing I suppose. Looking at it with my rose tinted spectacles, if the service is reinstated in the near future we then have a few months subscription left during which we can see whether this is going to be an ongoing problem, and if that is the case we have over this past week found a number of alternative ways to keep viewing, albeit not quite as user friendly. If this had happened in the summer it would not have mattered much to us but on winter days like today ..... Thankfully I’m a fan of jigsaws and crosswords!

When I think of how you are badgered in the UK by Virgin and Sky to take up their packages, surely there is a business case for the UK and CY to get together and sort out the broadcasting rules to enable people to subscribe to legal tv? I for one would be their customer.

When I spoke to the gentleman last Sunday he said it is ANDROID and is from UK. So we shall have to see.
Android is the box, if he is selling you a fully loaded box, from a market place, , with whats going on now.....then he isn't the smartest person around..

It strikes me as odd, that only some systems in Cyprus have gone down. I have a Mag box system which gives all the sport channels, film channels, UK TV etc, etc. and my system has been working perfectly all through this period.
If my system had been off for almost a week, I would certainly be looking for a new provider, regardless of cost.

This afternoon I have just tried our mag box again.. It is now showing the words Connection problem at the top of the screen, as though we have no internet. But we have of course..

I’m investigating a few new options.... Plus a VPN router to ‘hide’ the source and me..... I think IPTV will continue to be occasionally thwarted and a VPN to a source far way, may be safest bet.

For those who have"connection problem", you probably have same supplier as myself. Spoke to "S", about an hour ago, they have had a problem, so it is off again, expected to be on fully ASAP, whatever that means, whereupon the page will load up automatically and work. "S" is currently in UK, because his father is ill, but he still answered his phone. Be patient people, we have to wait a bit longer!

Austin7/darrow,

I am not certain the MAG system works like that. The portal can run on one server, and the streams can come from any other server. If the portal is down (connection problem) then it is either being upgraded (and you probably would have received a message warning you about this as the boxes connect to the portal), or is actually down. Either way the supplier would have been able to send messages to the box to keep you informed about changes etc.

The fact you could get radio means the portal server was restored. The fact that the portal server is now off-line, I would not take as good news, as the stream address is updated with the portal on-line. The portal has to be working in order to log-in and administer it.

I could be wrong though, as I have no idea how this system works only how the normal stalker middleware operates.

Visiting your sick Dad takes priority over fixing a TV service. Please bear this in mind, and as Darrow says, be patient. If you can't be patient, fine, but don't talk about it here.

to be fair, S, SOS and others are only agents, they do not supply the service - only one service provider has been effected, but with several agents all over the island.

If they had not had custom software on their boxes and set the portal to their own, they could have redirected the portal to another supplier very quickly - just a quick call to ask customers to reboot the box and they would have been ok and working with their new provider.

Just a thought, but during this TV crisis in Cyprus, can you guys 'n gals access BBC, ITV and All 4 players online?

There's a wealth of drama, docs, box sets etc to watch. Might need VPN for viewing out of the UK, though... This afternoon, I was on All 4 Player watching "Guy Martin- Last Vulcan bomber flight". Fascinating (and tear-jerking) documentary.

HD quality through my 24" monitor / HDMI connection, too! Downside is, All 4 still insists you have Ads on catchup, doh...

AL :D

We can get the iPlayers and on demand programs here,
but as you mention we need a VPN or similar.

Is this a step backwards: This morning cannot bring up the menu...which means cannot access the radio!

Forever the optimist...Maybe working on keeping it closed down is more likely to be the case..These predicted dates of its return are starting to come and go. Heard yesterday that the police are going to start targeting bars using these services and imposing heafty fines.
