Does anyone have a recommendation where I could get a replacement central heating pump from at a reasonable price?

Our pump failed over Christmas weekend. Because we have the underfloor heating serviced by Z & X they had to fit a new pump as the old one was unrepairable.

yes, same sort of thing, this one is for the hot water loop rather than the under floor heating though. It's a straight forward swap if I can source a pump..

Danfoss is one of the better makes of CH pumps to look for. They last 20 years or more, when installed and commisioned properly!

Off Topic: Whilst typing this, I smelt a strange smell. Thought I'd lit my roll up the wrong way around. Then looked down and realized that the office waste paper bin was on fire! Mostly used tissues, I had to quench the burning embers with a large dose of water... Phew!

Sometimes these pumps get stuck if not in use for a while. If you open the front screw (with a coin etc) and give the wheel inside a little help with a screwdriver, if you are lucky, the pump will work again....(just did it in my friends house, as the heating pump was not used for one year)

yes, that's what has happened, it's jammed so solid I can't free it at all, sediment and corrosion build up.. it's been in a good few years and get's such infrequent use, it's not too surprising it's finally died.

In this case you have no choice. Green Air, which does banner advertising on this forum does all kind of maintenance jobs for central heating. Alan is correct that Danfoss pumps are good quality, but in this case a Grundfos MQ pressure pump would be best. (not cheap though) but there are also cheaper ones on the market.

Oops- you are correct, Max! Grundfos are the C/H Pump manufacturers I was thinking of. Danfoss are focused mainly on the H&V Controls side of things.

Before our Worcester-Bosch combi boiler was installed a few years back, the maintenance trick you describe above was a regular task for me on the old Grundfos pump. Always did the trick, though!

@kingsdale: Maybe the system could do with a power flush and new inhibitor fluid? Else a new pump might not last very long, circulating all that rusty gunge in the pipework. It might transpire that your existing pump will be fine again after such a dose of TLC on the system!
