High tide, fooey.

Jules hello, I can assure you there is little to no tides in this area, I have said this many times (see today's photos), willing to prove this also.

On Friday last week Cyprus had storms about 20 miles out at sea, this caused highish water bringing in seaweed to Riccos beach area, and yes again not tides because tides come in and then go out, yes!, oddly the sea stayed where it is in these photos taken today I do not think many of you use the beach daily basis, but I do. :geek:

Tide in tide out ...Ha!! it was lovely down there this morning. 8-)

Have you lot tried listening to the radio? I know the TV is still knackered but there is some pretty good stuff on the airwaves.

Not this beach I presume? as you do not live in this area, if there is a tide a big if then please let the local fishermen know, they will be amazed at this information. Definitely, no noticeable tides where I go on a daily basis. As I said maybe not many beach walkers here? 8-)

Dom my IPTV's are all working as they should, IPTV is still alive and well it seems. :!:

Does the Mediterranean sea have tides? (Intermediate)
Somebody told me that the Mediterranean sea doesn't have tides. That is truth?

Tides, like many of the phenomena in nature, are very complicated in their details. If the Earth and Moon were both perfectly spherical and the Earth was covered by an ocean of a constant depth, then everywhere the tides would have the same amplitude. However, the Earth has continents and islands and the oceans vary greatly in their depths. All of these things affect the amplitude of the tides seen in a given spot, as does the local climate and air pressure!

The Mediterranean sea does have tides, but they are of a very low amplitude, as you can see somewhat in the below diagram (from Legos via Aviso/Altimetry) where the Mediterranean is mostly shown in blue meaning its tides have an average amplitude of a few centimetres, (instead of the metre of so shown in the part of the atlantic you can see).

med tides

Figure shows the amplitude of predicted tides in centimetres from Legos via Aviso/Altimetry

The low tides in the Mediterranean are mostly associated with the fact that it has a very narrow outlet/inlet into the atlantic (although that is not the whole story).

Let's keep this civil folks. :)

Well that was fun. This thread is now locked, as the whole tide thing has been done to death.

Look, I know it is boring waiting for your telly to come back on, but please, let's not resurrect any other arguments from yesteryear just to keep you amused until it's working again.

Thank You.
