Anyone got any advice?
I need to see a Orthopaedic Specialist (hip problems) sometime soon. Can anyone explain the procedures for seeing a specialist? Do you need to register to see a GP first or arrange for a specialist appointment. If so, how please. I am registered at the hospital and have a file etc.
Many thanks in anticipation.

Seeing a Specialist at the General
Re: Seeing a Specialist at the General
Some consultants at Paphos General are seeing people without referral, other's aren't ............ not sure about the Orthopaedic Consultant unfortunately! As you will probably need x-rays, plus maybe other scans then I suggest you go see one of the GPs first & get them to refer you. They will give you forms for x-rays, etc which you can get done the same day and take the results to the consultant.
You need to go to the reception & register for a GP with your medical card & take your file plus prescription booklet with you! It costs 3 euros to see the GP & 6 euros for a consultant.

Re: Seeing a Specialist at the General
When I have booked appointments for Specialists for my wife, it is not at the 'front' counter, where you book to see a GP, but in a cubicle along the corridor on the right, just past the payment / stamp cubicle.
Re: Seeing a Specialist at the General
Specialist appointments are at the middle cubicle as GRB says. You don't pay there, but you will probably get an appt for several weeks later. The day of the appt you register at the front desk for specialist and pay your €6 , and get your stickers. He/she will decide if you need xrays etc.

Re: Seeing a Specialist at the General
My wife & I were at the General today & saw a consultant without an appointment or a referral. We had to book in at the reception, pay 6 euros & wait for our turn, so you don't need to use the "middle cubicle" & wait several weeks for an appointment!
It seems to depend on the consultant that you need to see, Chest, Cardio, Renal, etc need a referral from a GP in our experience but you never know as this is the "Cyprus system" at work!
