Any ideas where I can find something like this?

Post by Jimgym »

I'm looking for something like this, not exactly the same, but something unusual and slightly different. Anyone know of someone who would make it out sells similar?

Hmmm, that's a tough call, Jim... The screen panels you illustrate appear to be sheet 16g stainless steel, punched and formed on a large hydraulic press machine.

I doubt if anywhere in Paphos has such machinery, it's more likely to be found in the industrial factory areas of Limmasol and Nicosia, I reckon. However, what you could try is to have a wander around the little side streets up behind the Market in the Old Town.

There, you have dozens of little open-fronted fabrication workshops, knocking up all sorts of metalwork things. You might get lucky and spot just the type of metal panel design that floats your boat, and haggle a deal. If so, getting wood frames made for them should be eazypeazy!

Good Luck! AL :)

Thanks Al. It's not exactly what I want but along those lines. Don't even mind what material it's made from, just need something to slightly screen an area in garden and something like the above would look great!

I'm not sure Jim but you know the little flower shop and Garden centre in Kissonerga? Well I am sure she told me that her husband had some sort of steel/ alluminium place on the Mesoghi Industrial Estate - it was a few years ago though!

I would give the same suggestion as Al. There are a number of such places in that area (try the road from the mosque near the market up to the large bingo hall). If they can't make what you want, they will be sure to know someone who can.

Sorry, can't be of any help Jim but, the panels are certainly stunning. Let us know how you get on.

Of course, I'm just being nosy. 😁

Isn't it amazing what we all learn here on PL every day? Another idea for a run of privacy screening are 6' x 6' double offset layered impregnated fencing panels in various designs.

They use standard 4"x4" slotted concrete posts and 6" x 1" concrete gravel boards. Total privacy, but sunlight still finds it's way down between the planks for the flowers and shrubs down below, either side.

Yea, I would mark it all off, centre punch, and drill it. Would take quite some time. :D

Thanks everyone for your thoughts, suggestions and ideas! I have seen the Choices ones, and know here the supplier is so will check them out. Just want something a bit different from the usual screens for garden.

Much softer and easier to drill into than s/s of course, but with a very real risk of cracking the sheet, even when carried out with great care.
We find leaving the sticky plastic covering on it helps to stop it from cracking....

Add in the fact that SS also rusts over time, where the construction grade is used, particularly if any rough edges have been left.... so a hand manufactured piece would be out.... whereas a pressed sheet, as Al mentioned, is only option....You can spray SS with a silicone compound to prevent staining, but a lot depends on the grade and construction edges and finish.....

Perspex dosnt last two minutes in the Cyprus sun, also anyone who has bought perspex can confirm how expensive it is.

Happy in Cyprus wrote: Sat Dec 30, 2017 11:25 am Grade 316 s/s should be fine, but 304 will give the best long term guarantee of no corrosion.

I have garden lights and front door furniture made from lesser grades of s/s (typical retail 'cheap Chinese') and polish them from time to time with a WD40 impregnated rag to give them in reasonable condition.
You're the wrong way around HiC. 316 is generally more corrosion resistant than 304.

On a one off basis the most cost effective way to make this would be on a laser cutter. Trivial to set up the pattern on CAD and transfer to the machine. After that trivial bending needs to be done to get the returns shown. If you can't get it off the shelf and want to go bespoke this is the type of company you're looking for http://andreoulaser.com/ (no affiliation, just found them with Google - they have CAD to prepare the geometry, have a decent laser cutter and can bend). No idea of cost but one offs can very quickly get expensive.

Somebody with a CNC punch would also do the job but you're going to need 3 'circle' tools for the geometry shown. If they didn't have something close it's going to get expensive to get them made. This would give you the nicest finish in this instance though as you get a nice 'lead in' into the circles as the punch deforms the metal before shearing occurs.

You could water jet cut it as HiC mentioned but it's going to be more expensive then either of the above options.

I thought that these sort of things would be Computer controlled Laser Cuts, there is somewhere in UK does this but I imagine it would cost a HOLE lot of money.

I found this website (not quite the same thing but they are metal screens). They will also deliver to Cyprus for £80 no matter if I added 1 or 3 panels:

The alternate Rustic Metal Tree screen in that link looks quite interesting too.
