Attaboy Hudswell. Good positive attitude. Well done. Anyway, now that you know where the Green Point is near Polis, at least you will be able to use it.

The Cypriot authorities are doing something about it though. They are introducing these green points. We, as concerned citizens can do our bit, by actually using these Green Points. That is the purpose of this blog, to make people aware of them.

Many of us on your forum have been here for many more years, in fact we (CL) involved local politician's to the plight of fly tipping in the Pafos area ten years ago, with a promise from them to doing something about it Dominic, they didn't then and my guess is they wont now, but we can live in hope I guess.

Honestly in 20 years I have seen no change in local attitude to dumping waste of any kind, just look at rubbish bins in the Peyia area, these things are seen by tourist, and lack of commitment, probably money is the reason nothing seems to change, we did try Dom this I can tell you, and believe me as I intend to stay here I hope I see some improvement, but being doubtful I will be very surprised if there is any changes, as I said I live in hope.

So who put in all the Green Points then? Yes, that's right, it was the Cypriot Authorities. Now we should do our part and actually use them.

Of course they are part of the answer! People are not going to recycle if there is nowhere for them to recycle.

The Green Points were barely mentioned on CL. I just did a search and there was one thread about them:

Sorry, but I think it is important that people know these places exist. I asked the other day if anybody knew where the Polis one was, and nobody did.

A little story for you Dom that is absolutely true, a friend of mine "green willy" followed a garbage truck with separated items of rubbish to the then local tip, the one on the way to the airport, it all went into land fill and still does mostly, they have no way to handle waste like this, I am with you on a proper clean up in this area. I really am, I just do not think they are totally be hide this fix, it will not stop fly tipping, they have no way to do this here or to handle it when they do. Lest just hope eh!!

OK you will not find this topic on Achieved CL Dom, why? well about seven or eight years ago or so we changed to another private server as the old server kept crashing out, so all older postings were deleted, any member then will remember this, so many of the older topics have long disappeared unfortunately, I sincerely hope you do not doubt my comment's Dominic, I do not tell lies. We as a forum really tried to bring a change to this well known problem, lets hope PL can do better, at least we did try.

Green Points were not then on the agenda!

Yes then you understand we had no Green Points to discus, we involved local Authorities about this on going problem, much earlier than 2015.

Well, yes you did, in 2015 and 2016. But I really don't get what your issue is. What is wrong with highlighting where the recycling points are, and encouraging people to use them? Why be negative about that?

I have moved this from the Clean Up Paphos thread because it isn't really relevent to that thread. It certainly doesn't belong in the Pit though. :)

One thing is for sure, Cyprus is nowhere near hitting its recycling targets set by the EU & they will be getting nice little letters from the EU reminding them of their obligations under the relevant EU Directive! Failure to comply will eventually result in financial penalties running into millions of euros, bet the Cypriot Govt. starts to take notice then!

I have no issues with the blog Dominic and it was not me in that old post that mentioned Green Points, what we tried to do was something much more direct, and I agree something needs to be done, just do not believe this is the answer, I sincerely hope it is though.
We had already highlighted the problem years ago, with the assurance Paphos would be tidied up, unfortunately this never happened, lets all wish that this new venture works. This was long before 2015 just to clear this point up.

OK off to cook the Turkey.. :)

The situation with rubbish issues is much better nowadays as it was 30 years ago. And It WILL improve further with the now installed collecting points.
There could be some more in my opinion, but maybe in future. I will ask the Deputy mayor about it. The one responsible for the mess in Marathounda dip is already behind bars.
I remember very well that in nearly all river beds around Paphos, all kind of rubbish was dumped. And to top that I have seen rubbish lorries which were dumping their loads in the sea next to Lara Bay, but again in the 80th. When I drive now around near river beds of Ezousa, Xeros or Dhiarizos for my photo blogs it is much much better than it was. (OK it can still improve) So let's hope that the next 10 years one hardly can find any rubbish dumped.

Thank you Dominic, for highlighting the Green Points and telling us where they are. I for one didn't know. When I am back over in a couple of weeks, I am going to make a point of using the Peyia one regularly. Be the change you want to see, as the saying goes. Happy Christmas.

Thank you Bograt. It is important that people know these places exist so that they can use them. That is the most direct action you can take, actually using the facilities provided. Actions speak far louder than words. Happy Christmas to you too. :)

Here in the UK I live only a mile away from the local recycling site and it seems to be really well run but what they also do is post the percentage of recycling they have achieved which really makes you think it is worth it and I know they are also using recyclable plastics to go into road surfacing. I do agree with Jim though that it seems in Cyprus that although they may be collecting recyclable items I am not sure w h at they are doing with it - it always seemed as though they were just paying lip service to EU regulations.

When we were living the the UK, stories about the recycling bin lorries going to landfill were rife too. Whatever does eventually happen to it, it is surely better than having it dumped in the countryside?

It would be a good idea to spread the good word and tell your neighbours about your local Green Spot find, too.

As not all your neighbours will be PL members. (If that's the case, then tell them about PL as well, LOL!)
