taking a picture of a thermometer in full sun is..as you infer Jim..pretty much if not totally meaningless!

You are absolutely right, ronk, I would use Jim's own words: HUMBUG!!!

As Jim said, it was in full sun, and if there was no wind and you were sitting in the sun, that is the temperature it would feel like, which is warm for the time of year. However, the air temperature would be around the 20c mark. Previous Christmas's, it has been pleasant sitting out on our patio but cold round the back of the house.

It has been 12c here in North Wales today. I've been out on my bike with no gloves or hat and even though it was cloudy, it was a good ride. 26 miles altogether.

Ronk!! I always say never take accurate temps in full sun, you must know this, but the camera does not lie, it was very hot sitting in the back garden at our house especially being late December. (not so good today they say)..
