That's why I love Cyprus - fresh fish near the Sea 9.12. pics

Post by cyprusmax47 »

Another glorious sunshine today and I enjoyed not only my fish but also 20 degrees without any wind on the veranda of my fish tavern. It was like a feeling of Spring time when I arrived from home where it was only 12C.
When I saw that they were serving Octopus from the grill to the next table I fancied to have the same as a starter dish... So I ordered my usual village salad, tahini, and with the toasted bread there arrived also one of my favourite potatoes: young ones from the oven..
Image

Then my starter arrived: grilled Octopus with chips as well...
Image

with a lot of garlic of course and ever so tender
Image

Waiting for the main dish I had time for some more pics just from my table and obviously they just cleaned their windows...
Image

And towards the Sea with a medium zoom...no waves at all
Image

Here we are with my main dish: Sorgos again, but fried only a few minutes and another one of this delicious baked oven potatoes.
Image

After all of that there was only space for a Greek coffee glykos and when I arrived back home a nice Scotch to digest.
So, this trip to Timi beach made my day... (can only be topped if my club Bavaria Munich wins later in the "Bundesliga" match :) )

When I left the tavern, just a final pic from Mandria Beach, 2 km away.. but nobody swimming

But its not the only fish taverna! We had a delicious fish meze at St Georges Taverna, Agios Georgios, well cooked and reasonably priced last Monday. The taverna is right on the edge of the cliffs, looking over the little harbour and Yeronisos Island. Previously have enjoyed lovely fresh sword fish there as well.

No, Dee, certainly not the only one, but I love to go there every Saturday since years. St. Georges Tavern is much too crowded for me (touristic) and the quality of food was never as good when I tried there several times in the past. Ayios Yeorgios is far out of my way as I need only 15 min from my home to drive to Timi.

That was my main intention: the glorious weather in December here, and of course to enjoy lovely fresh fish outside with a relaxing atmosphere...
Just hear in BFBS the nasty weather conditions in UK...

You are right about the present weather in England! I woke up this morning and looked out, to find that we'd had a 2-3" dump of snow on Luton through the night...

Looks a beautiful scene, though, especially the trees! Browsing the BBC Weather for the next few days, it looks the day and night temperatures won't allow a thaw until at least this coming Wednesday.

Dee, if you want to rave about a place, start your own thread and do it there. Otherwise, it just gets confusing. Besides, Max has been posting about his favourite fish restaurant for months now, and a lot of people ask to see his photos.

He obviously loves the place and loves sharing photos about it. If you love a different place, start your own thread about it. :)

I just watch German football and the undersoil heating is not strong enough to shift the snow...

Hi Dominic, I think that your comments are a little unfair. I wasn't raving about St George's, I was trying to post factual information. Not all, board members live close to Timi. The other taverna is more convenient for anyone living to the west of Paphos. Why should one taverna occupy the main page of the forum week after week? How about a page where peoples comments, experiences and photos of their fave restaurants be displayed?
I am just a casual visitor to it who enjoyed my food. It is a no frills sort of place, has good fish, which is very nicely cooked and reasonably priced. Agree that it is very busy on Sundays when we walked past, but not so during the rest of the week. I never posted about being put off by lots of trolleys of discarded food or dirty plates, as the Aquila wrote as I haven't been there when it is very busy.

Hi Max...We saw your fantastic photographs of the Calamari and fish so decided to give it a go the Saturday before last. Started with some Calamari and small fry..followed with Sea Bass , Red Mullet and Parrot fish. I mentioned your name and the lady told us we were sitting at your favourite table. What a great place , will be returning soon! Thank you....

I am glad Reesy that you enjoyed it. It was the only Saturday I wasn't there the whole year as I was out for a picnic in the forest. I have actually two different favourite tables. When they serve in Summer at the pavilion next to the sea it is #12, right in the corner where it is sheltered from wind.
So if you try next time the Octopus for a starter you will love it. And don't forget to ask for sea salt flakes. What I really like that it is a real family business with the father and son cooking while the daughter Elena does the service with the help of the only employed waiter. There are 4-5 other members of the family in the kitchen though to prepare salads etc.... Important is further for me that I can choose the kind of fish which is recommended from Elena to be the freshest delivery of this day...and one can see it, how the eyes look.
