They look in wonderful condition, and absolutely laden! A beautiful sight.

When we were over last week, to finish moving in, I was juicing tangerines all the time from our 2 trees. I could not believe how prolific they were. They are in need to some attention though, not as well maintained as your neighbours'. Luckily the gardener starts in January, and he is going to advise as to how to look after fruit trees better.

Perhaps you could ask for a few of those, and make some orange curd - delicious.

Really? Good lord. That does not sounds so good. Now our bougainvillea, well that could give your orange trees a run for their money.

Most local varieties of citrus fruits has thorns ..big uns!

Well this will depend on the variety you chose, I have a Lemon tree, that is an Italian Amalfi, and an Orange tree a Jaffa, and a Pink Grapefruit, none have any thorns.

They are perhaps wild one's. You can make bitter orange jam with them. Or you find someone to graft them. Every tree of the lemon family has to be grafted when you want nice fruits...

Ours don't have any thorns as far as I can tell. Just quite small, and quite sweet, fruits. Either tangerines or mandarins I think. Not satsumas. as the skin is not loose. It was curd chaos in my little kitchen, as I didn't want to waste them.

The Book Exchange in Tremithousa would always be grateful for bitter oranges if you have some going spare. We have a super lady who makes jams and preserves for us so they would be very welcome!

If you are lucky Bograt than you have the old variety of Cypriot mandarin, very sweet but very fruity. Harvesting time November. They have much more taste than the "easy peel", but people like that ...

I wonder. There were a couple of very early fruits in mid October, but they really started mid November into the beginning of December, which is when we left. I think they are still going now, and I have told a couple of people to go and pick whatever they like.

When I was last in Paphos I had an orange or satsuma (it was easy to peel) off one of the trees behind Stefanis. Took one bite and threw it away. It tasted like a lemon.

I think the citrus trees you usually see along the pavements and public streets in Cyprus are generally the ungrafted type... The tree doesn't know if it's supposed to be an orange or a lemon unless someone tells it how it will turn out.

Always best to avoid picking and eating the abundance of "free" fruit if you're prepared to nick it off the street trees.

Go talk to a friendly house owner instead and admire their orchards
