Jerusalem
Jerusalem
After Trumps recognition of Jerusalem as Israels Capital, he seems to be the only World leader that wants this to happen, what are the forum members views on this, for what its worth I dont agree with it, as its another barrier towards finding a Peace solution, I think Jerusalem being so important to the Worlds different religions, it should be a political neutral City, belonging to the World rather then one country.
Re: Jerusalem
I think the world, outside of Trump and Israel, would not welcome this move. It pushes any hope of peace further away. The two-state solution is gradually being eroded and hope of any settlement disappears. I think that's the aim.
Re: Jerusalem
All Trump has done is recognise Jerusalem as the capital of my country; it was that anyway whatever Trump said.
It was part of his election campaign that he would do so and move the USA Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
Incidentally 3 previous USA Presidents (including Obama) also said they would, but never did.
Just a storm in a teacup, more anti-Trump clap-trap.
The Palestinians also have their part of the city as their capital. Does Trump recognise the Palestinian state? Cyprus does, there is a Palestinian "embassy" (resident delegation) in Nicosia just as there is an Israeli one.

Re: Jerusalem
I wonder why you took "(resident delegation)" out of the quote you used ??? If you alter the Quote, then it is not what someone has written..
Trev..
Re: Jerusalem
To be fair to WHL, I edited my post (adding in resident delegation) AFTER he wrote his post. He quoted as it was at the time.
I edited it because it is not an Embassy (which is why I put it in inverted commas) in the usual way.

Re: Jerusalem
I was a bit confused to your post Trev, because I didnt see any (resident delegation).. but Amos has explained now
Re: Jerusalem
Just noticed the explanation

Re: Jerusalem
Jerusalem is the religious centre of the three main monotheistic religions. Both Palestine and Israel want it as their capital, and the UN has been trying to broker a peace deal between them for a long time. The deal would have it as a shared capital. Personally I think it should be a UN administered city outside any country, but that's just me.
We all are aware of the difficulties in getting a peace deal. Missiles fired into Israel and expanding settlements onto Palestinian land etc don't help matters. This is why people have been pushing for calm and dialogue. Now Trump has charged in and put everything back years. The man is a fool with little grasp of the effects of his actions. Responsible world leaders should distance themselves from him without delay.

Re: Jerusalem
Sadly, I am rapidly coming to the conclusion that Trump is a lunatic. Recognising Jerusalem as the capital of Israel was always going to create huge problems and, seemingly, will only be welcomed by people from Israel.
The violence had already begun. Reuters reported earlier that Palestinians in Gaza threw rocks over the fence at Israeli soldiers, who responded with live fire. This astonishingly heavy handed response from Israel has happened so many times before and can only make the situation worse.
Interesting that Trump doesn't see this announcement as a problem, indeed he thinks that it will help, yet American embassies have warned Americans overseas to keep a low profile and to be careful, and in Jordan, have been told not to send their children to school, so the people at the sharp end seem to realise the enormity of what he has done.

Re: Jerusalem
What Trump announced was more important for what it should have gone on to say and that was that East Jerusalem should be recognised as the capital of the Palestinian state. However this might have been a deliberate omission.
Re: Jerusalem
Trump is a fool. He has now sentenced the Middle East to conflict.
Israel, under Netanyahu, is a tyrant state. Trump has legitimised a situation where Arab and Coptic Christian properties and lands can be appropriated to suit an agenda. God help them all....

Re: Jerusalem
The Fact that only Trump recognizes Jerusalem as the Capital, and every other country on the Planet .does not....should give you a clue, it wasn't a good idea?
Re: Jerusalem
Let's take this step by step! :-
Q1. What is the Capital City of Israel?
Q2. Is Israel a recognised State internationally?
Q3. Where would you expect to find a USA Embassy in an International State, in the Capital or elsewhere in that State?
Q4. What are Consulates?
Q5. Which other USA Presidents said they would move the USA Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv?
Q6. So is President Trump out of line?
Q7. So is President Trump a man of action rather than of words?
Answers:
Q1. Jerusalem (since 1947!!).
Q2. Yes.
Q3. In the Capital.
Q4. A sub-embassy in a City other than the Capital.
Q5. Presidents Obama, Bush (jr), Clinton.
Q6. No.
Q7. Yes.
QED.

Re: Jerusalem
Amos very pretty , but at the end of the day, you spin it how you want, Trump is on his own against every other nation on the planet, that tells you everything.
Re: Jerusalem
His own nation (USA) supports him, they voted him in and this was on his action plan of things to be done if he was elected.
I hope other countries will see the light and follow suit, and help defeat the Islam terrorists such as Hamas. They are a threat not just to Israel but also to ALL other countries.
Amos.
Re: Jerusalem
I dont know why you try to link Hamas to Trump/Jerusalem to justify Trumps cock ups..every right thinking person wants to defeat terrorism, ..but I think Trumps latest action only feeds recruitment to terrorists in the middle east.exodus wrote: ↑Fri Dec 08, 2017 3:33 pmHis own nation (USA) supports him, they voted him in and this was on his action plan of things to be done if he was elected.
