This is an urban myth. Long before 1974, there was a Greek-Cypriot run private airfield (not an airport) on that land and it was appropriated to turn it into the airport. If that were not the case, there was no way they could have got it operational so quickly. OTOH, there is a small area in the SE corner that was TC and the owner has rent for it paid into a fund in his name.

I suppose it depends where you are staying...in a legal or illegal establishment....and as I pointed out, the term used in the link I posted is "Foreign Citizens" which obviously does not include Cypriots....
And why do they distinguish between staying in one of the hotels on the list, and just (say) having a meal in one?
Both are putting money in the pocket of some TC who is "occupying" it. As is gambling in them.
I don't think anyone should be allowed or encouraged or not discouraged from supporting those establishments, including GCs (who seem to be the ones using them the most for the gambling); which is why I asked in an earlier post why don't they just close all the crossing points? Don't let anyone cross in either direction - they would for a start I gather save a fortune on Health Service running costs treating TCs, and help to put the use of those hotels/casinos out of business.
As a relative newcomer the whole thing seems as daft as a brush and both sides should just get on with their lives.
And I thought we had problems with the Palestinians! Small beer in comparison. :?

Stopping Turkish Cypriots from using the Cypriot health service would be illegal,as for the gambling ..once the Cyprus casinos open up, I dont think anyone would bother driving to the north..

1. Please explain why it would be illegal.
2. If it would be, then so surely would be closing the crossing points since that would cause (1).

Turkish Cypriots have the same rights as Greek Cypriots, banning them from using the health services would be illegal....your the one calling for the crossings to be closed, keep up as you would say.....Amos your like a dog with a bone, if your so concerned about this subject, why dont you send an Email to the immigration dept, and get the answers your looking for? because no matter how many times people , try and answer your question, you will not be satisfied until you get the answer you want to hear.

Thank you for that. I am not bothered what the answer is, just trying to figure out the logic of their (immigration's) rules.
As you cannot answer my queries then I might well ask immigration, that is if nobody else on the forum can.
