Some goods are not where they were!

Papantonoiu are prone to do this from time to time! They did a radical re-organisation of their Ellados Rd branch a few months ago. It was chaos for a while as customers were forced to walk miles around the store trying to find products that they had intended to buy. In the process you end up buying things that weren't on your original shopping list! Equals more profit for the supermarket!
Now Lidl, Polis Rd, have done the same at their store. They closed for 2 days this week in order to complete this, but have re-opened again.

Supermarket psychology. Tesco and the rest have been playing this game with us in the UK for many years now...

They constantly relocate stuff around the store in order to disorientate the shopper. Plus they move the cheaper items to the very bottom or top of the shelves, with the much more expensive (and high profit) equivalents at waist or eye level, for an easier grab.

The needed basics are invariably sited in the furthest far flung corners of the store, trying to force you to walk past many 'luxury / appealing' products that weren't on your shopping list, up and down a labyrinth of aisles, hoping for snap purchases. They treat us like idiots...

I have no problem getting down on my hands and knees in the store to dig out what I want from the bottom shelves. I'm 6ft tall (and often help fellow shoppers reach something on the top shelf and pass it down to them). Sometimes, even I can't reach. So I just walk around and find a staff 'hop-up' for the top shelf, LOL!

I guess supermarkets in Paphos are learning the same kind of marketing strategy?

Probably you are right Al! I find this very strategy of putting things that are in common use on high or very low shelves very annoying as I am not as good at bending to pick stuff up from bottomn shelves or at stretching up to reach the top shelves as I used to be! I usually try to find a member of staff if one can be found to do this for me. I think Paps have learnt this strategy, but tho I visit Alpga Mega less often, I find that I can normally reach everything I need without problems. Except negotiating their escalator which I hate! So I don't use a big shopping trolley there.

I always use the lift just to the right inside the main entrance of Alpha Mega when I need to do any shopping downstairs.

Galexinda. Thanks for that suggestion which would be much easier for me!

Just realised I need to give clear instructions Dee. You need to go in through the main entrance lobby and then into the store itself. The lift is just before the vegetable section and only goes to the basement area. If you had followed my original instructions you would go up to the car parking!

Had a wander round Chloraka Papantoniou and it will look very modern and brighter when the upgrading is complete. Currently moving the frozen section, so one area of the shop is cordoned off and new units look far more hygienic and it should be easier to find items rather than rummaging around. Just need a store plan similar to the one issued by Papantoniou in town when they altered the layout.

Good point that! Having noticed the blocked fire exits some years ago, I mentioned my concerns to the manager. Zero action taken. They don't seem concerned about the fire safety regs. Are there any? You would think that some dept of local government or the fire service would do safety checks in all stores, especially busy ones like supermarkets?
Hope Flossie may know or can find out about this?
