I found out today that after the Chernobyl disaster the remaining reactors carried on producing electricity. The last one was decommissioned on December 15th 2000.

I didn't think that knowledge was worthy of a thread in it's own right, so I will bolt it on here instead.

I have seen similar lights that were helicopters on a night exercise.... Maybe the sound wouldn't carry depending on wind?

If you watch the film on youtube you can see the accompanying text. The military said the lights were targets used in an exercise.
