It's a sorry state of affairs when the TV ads for Christmas get talked about more than the TV.

I found the John Lewis one you posted a bit boring, to be honest. Plus I don't like slowed down versions of songs I used to dance to as a teenager. The only slowed down songs I liked were the ones they did for Kronenberg.

I find quite often the ads more entertaining than a lot of TV programmes, the Warburton ad is priceless.

What a strange observation. TV advertising is an art form and the UK makes some of the best TV ads in the World. The John Lewis advert above is, I would suggest, the pinnacle of that art form. Much of the content on TV these days is unremarkable dross.

Why "STRANGE"?

The whole Christmas event has been totally ruined by TV. It is barely November.

And please do not say "bah Humbug" as a reply.

I have tried to view the John Lewis project you posted but got a message to say "no longer available" I then tried the U Tube video but again a message appeared "This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by ESMA" so cannot view. Disappointed as I think the JL Christmas adverts tend to be the best.

The long versions of ads are invariariably shown as solus slots during peak-time viewing (like X-Factor). From this 4 minute advert, smaller versions a fraction of the original length are made...and these serve as much less expensive reminder ads.

Dont see how they get money for value, as most people get up to go to the loo, make a cup of tea etc and miss the ads

I was tempted to say "Bah Humbug" by way of reply and predictably you just did!!Here in Cyprus it is only a few weeks before the big day when the event is promoted commercially, though inevitably and necessarily - not everything can be left until the last minute - supermarkets and shops have Christmas goodies available now.

Why cannot everything be left to the last minute? How long does it take to purchase a few gifts and hang a few decorations?

I can go to the shops on a normal day and get all my shopping done in 2 or 3 hours, why not on Christmas eve? That was how we used to do it. The tree went up approx 4 pm on Christmas eve.

Hi Rita. Often, when a video is taken down by one claimant it is still possible to find the same video posted by other uploaders on YouTube. I just found ESMA's own upload, which while longer at over 6 minutes is likely to stay up if they are the copyright owner. Really beautifully crafted, this time with credits...and I know you will enjoy.

It's rather reminiscent of Raymond Briggs' 'The Snowman' on Channel 4 every Christmas Day afternoon. Who remembers when that was voiced by David Bowie, with 'Flying in the Air' sung by Aled Jones (who sounds a bit like me, when I'm singing in the bath )
