Don't You Just Love Some Brits?

Post by Band »

Just had a call from my wife, who went to Lidl with our daughter. She realised at the till that she had forgotten something and dashed off to get it. As soon as she had gone a really big and brave British man rounded on my daughter and gave her an absolute mouthful of filthy language because he was going to have to stand at the till for an extra 30 seconds.

Needless to say, as soon as my wife returned he shut up, but my daughter was so upset and frightened that she didn't say anything until they had left the shop.

I very much doubt that this man has enough intellect to join a forum but, whoever he is, he should consider himself very lucky that I wasn't anywhere in the vicinity!

Nasty piece of work.....reminds me of something that happened to me a few years ago, waiting in the delli line at Carefour ...the young girl asked me what I wanted, just then a big Russian guy , standing next to me started swearing and yelling at the girl, saying he was next not me, he bellowed out at her calling her everything under the sun, the poor girl started crying and shaking, at that point, I pushed the guy and told him to calm down, maybe the girl made a mistake...at that point he went for me, and I started to think .pushing him wasnt a good idea.. as he was younger and bigger then me., thankfully for me, there was a young English Cypriot standing behind me, he pushed me out of the way, and got the Russian guy in a head lock, and had him on his knees, when he came round he left to the cheers of everyone in there.

I am going to leave this thread here, because, being British myself, I know full well that SOME British people can be like this.

However, not all are. The majority aren't.

Had somebody posted a similar thread which made a sweeping generalisation about a different nationality, I would have moved it to the Pit.

What I will do though, is edit the title of the thread, so it now reads "Don't You Just Love Some Brits". But really though, the nationality isn't really relevent. Rude idiots come from all countries.

Don't understand why you feel the need to edit the title, but it's your site so that's fine.

On the positive side, I have him leaving the car park on my dashcam, so I know the car and the registration, so karma may follow!

Simply because if you make a sweeping critical generalisation about an entire country it invariably leads to trouble.

We all have seen occasional examples of boorish behaviour by Brits. When I do it makes me want to cringe. People should remember that when living abroad we are all ambassadors for our country- and behave accordingly.
Luckily most Brits I know, who live here are decent, law abiding abd pleasant people.
You always get a few bad apples though, unfortunately.

Unless you are just out of nappies I'm sure we have all experienced bad behaviour from other nationalities but I admit if it comes from someone from your own country it seems a damn site worse

Yes I agree Jagwheels, but it is also more often that not the Brits that behave this way. The Russians are pretty arrogant but I don't really get that kind of aggravation from the Cypriots.

A lot of people from the UK seem to forget that they (we) are the immigrants here and we need to show a bit of respect - it can make all the difference.

Acting like an idiotic bully is wrong, no matter what country you are from or in. I think you notice it more when it is somebody from the same country as you though, because you can understand what they are saying and because there is the fear that onlookers will think that you might be with or like them.

I fail to understand why this thread is here at all.

what do you want from forum members? sympathy, retribution, vengeance.

I understand that you are upset but if you have the persons details on your dashcam then go and do something about it.

This thread is here, William, because a young girl was verbally abused by a bullying Brit behind her in the checkout at Lidl, while her Mum nipped away to grab an item she had forgotten.

It happens all the time in supermarkets, even here in UK. But I've never seen an outbreak of verbal abuse like this. Shameful... I always look at what the chap or lady has loaded on the belt behind me. If it's only a few items, then I always put them in front of mine- sigar sigar...

Often, I have a 'Spend £40 and get £6 off' voucher due to expire that day. But I don't want to spend £40 !!! So I hunt the checkouts for what looks like a worthy cause, with a full trolley of shopping going through, and give them the £6 voucher. The thanks and the happiness on their face always makes my day...

AL :)

Many years ago when the kids were younger we was at the triangle bus stop. The bus pulled up and no one got off so I told the kids to go first. Just as they was getting on a Scottish chap pushed the kids 8, 11, and we had our baby in the buggy. He said ignorant English bastards. If I had not had my Baby in the buggy I would of challenged him. Just shows ignorance is how you are brought up regardless of where you are born. But many cultures are different as well and accept what we think is ignorant. But an English man to threaten a poor child well I would of slapped him up and down the shop.

1. This is a forum about Paphos life, which, to my mind, means posting and discussing events and things that occur in the area. That is why the thread is here.

2. I don't want anything from forum members, unless one of them happens to be the person that I posted about.

3. At the time I posted, my wife and daughter had not arrived back at home and I had not checked the dashcam footage. Also, please don't think I am, not doing anything about it.

Thank you for your comments. I hope that I have answered them for you.
