small change machine at main Bank of Cyprus

Hi
Anyone who has loads of small change and uses the machine at the main Bank of Cyprus,be warned,it is only open for use from 8am to 10am.Also you were not charged if you paid the amount straight into your BOC account,now it,s 5euro.
I asked if it was the only machine in Paphos for BOC customers and the guy said it was.I asked why it was only accessible for 2 hours a day...shrug of shoulders.

You should be able to pay coinage into most banks in Cyprus. Up to €49.99 it should be free. Over that amount it is incremental, and sorry can't remember the fees as I never pay in more than €49.99 from the bookshop! It does take some juggling sometimes!

I was in Lidls and an elderly lady in front of me tried to pay her 30 odd euro purchase in small coins, the cashier refused because there was a long line waiting, she then told me alot of people have been trying to pay with small coins because the Banks have started charging to change into notes.

I put all my small coins in a pot, and when it is full I take it to a charity shop. They are happy to receive it and I get to feel good about myself. I recommend it.

My wife did that at a cafe belonging to a Paphos Charity.. In a tone of disgust, one assistant said to another ' More Shrapnel '
That was the last Shrapnel they ever got..

Small change is a problem for all businesses and charities. My desk is currently covered in several bags of copper, bags of 50c coins, 20c coins and 10c coins, along with several bags of €2 and €1 coins. I'm usually able to trade the €2 and €1 coins with my local taverna, but over and above that I'm making several trips to the bank with €49.99 worth of coins to bank and avoid paying €3 from the bookshop takings for the privilege! I mention trading with my local taverna as the banks also charge for giving the change in exchange for notes! Quelle surprise, another win win for the banks.

I used to wonder why the banks didn't have the scales which the UK banks have for weighing coins, until I saw Cypriots depositing huge bags of mixed coins over the counter!! Which also explained the profusive thanks from the tellers when I handed over bags of counted coins, along with the coin counting machines present in every bank.

It's quite a job managing change, which reminds me, the donation tin in the Bookshop is pretty heavy, so will need to empty, sort and bag that before long!!!

Must say though, that all of these coins contribute hugely to the funds which feed the animals, so I'm more than happy to keep counting, bagging, trading and banking the coins, so - please, please keep bringing your savings and contributions in, we love them!

The cashier did right. Why should other people be inconvenienced because of the selfish motive of this lady. If banks have started charging for this service so be it, I'm sure we all know to our cost how time-wasting for everyone this service is.

Why shouldn't you pay for things with small coinage, it is legal tender after all? Just because you get inconvenienced by it is no justification to call someone selfish ................. & before you ask I have stood behind someone counting out their 5, 2 & 1 cents but so what!

This made me laugh, obviously you dont shop in Lidls, if you did, you would know the cashiers are ordered not to hang around, you barely get your receipt in your hand, and the next customer goods are in your lap, they wait for the lines to get really long before opening another till..... ...I did say to the cashier '' had you started to count the ladys small change (2c and 5c) I would of left my goods and walked out, she said no chance, they(boss's) wouldn't allow it

Lidl's a "fast service" shop ................ you're having a laugh! You both have such hectic lives in Cyprus that you can't wait for a minute or two in a queue, how sad!

Oh, & yes I do shop in Lidl every week, it's just down the road from me!

Why don’t you suggest to Lidl, etc, that they obtain some of their own coin deposit machines like supermarkets do in the UK? Then you could point out to the customer in front of you at the till that they should have gone to the machine before they did their shopping & got rid of all their change so that you wouldn’t be Inconvenienced!

Don't worry Al, my hands are fair itching when I've been counting coins and can't wait to wash them and lather on the hand cream,its a mucky job! But so worthwhile for Paphiakos and the animals, so no probs!

It's all legal tender and many times rather than just give a higher value note I also give the cents so it makes it easier for the cashier to give me Euro coins and/or notes as change. The quickest method for me is when occasionally I use my P Card and the balance is less than €20 and the shop has the contactless payment system.
