Sailing Yacht 'A'
Sailing Yacht 'A'
Saw the below moored off Limassol today -
http://allaboutlimassol.com/en/city-new ... -limassol/
It suddenly appeared close to the Limassol coast on Saturday morning turning all heads and cameras on it. The gigantic vessel with the futuristic design was described as an “extraterrestrial” phenomenon by the people that happened to be near it. Born from the desire of the owner to push the boundaries of engineering and challenge the status quo of the industry', "Sailing Yacht A" is undoubtedly a most innovative and unique creation, worth around €400 million.
The 143-meter superyacht, which was has 3 masts, as tall as 91,44 meters are in fact taller than Big Ben's tower, is owned by a Russian billionaire. “Sailing Yacht A” boasts 8 floors - with a helicopter pad on one of the decks - and an underwater observation room. It is believed to be one of the world's largest sailing superyachts, designed to accommodate 20 guests and a crew of 54.
The unconventional yacht was designed by Frenchman Philippe Starck, who challenges the expectations of conventional aesthetics, and built by German Naval Yards, Nobiskrug. For Limassol, it is of great importance to attract such a unique sailing vessel. “Sailing Yacht A”, a customer at the Limassol Marina, did receive some services there, during its short stay in the area.
Trouble is I cannot make up my mind whether it is classy or tacky!

Re: Sailing Yacht 'A'
I think that the futuristic design is striking, but like other Russian owned 'super yachts or super motorised' versions which I have seen in Cyprus waters during the summer, personally I think some look a bit sinister... No, not a fan of this type of design, have seen much better looking boats of this type. I believe the new 'round the world' racing yachts are a sight to behold! The daughter of a friend of mine is crewing on one of them in the race for half the route. What an experience for her. Apparently on her boat none of them will be able to take a shower... pongy comes to mind!!

No, actually.
Re: Sailing Yacht 'A'
I actually saw Yacht "A" in Cartegena earlier this year moored just behind this one. I thought it was a Bond Villains convention!
Re: Sailing Yacht 'A'
I saw it in Cartagena as well! I was up close as on a catamaran sailing past it. The windows are shaded to prevent views in. The top-deck is unable to be seen. Total privacy and sinister. I’d imagine the owner, like many oligarchs, has many enemies.

There was also a large blue hulled private yacht I saw last week sailing across from Paphos to Coral Bay, it then spent some time anchored off Corallia, I am sure that the same Blue yacht was anchored off the Blue Lagoon this morning, spotted from Latchi, anyone got an I/D for this vessel?

GreenArmy12 the yacht is called Icon, and has been sailing around our coast since last Wednesday. We spotted some of the crew cycling along Potima this morning in their smart navy uniform. You need an arm,leg and plenty of money to charter this little beauty!
Re: Sailing Yacht 'A'
The large yacht moored off Pafos last week was rumoured to be Madonnas, no proof of course, also a large blue coloured helicopter was supposed to be hers.

Re: Sailing Yacht 'A'
Wonder what these sinister looking ships are doing then hovering as it were around our coasts? Yacht A looks as if it could submerge suddenly, I wonder what that conning tower stroke bridge is equipped with? Weapons systems? Air to ground missiles? Cameras and GPS ?+
Sophisticated listening and communications equipment? Childs playroom ?
Who knows what else it can be used for!
Meanwhile according to yesterday's paper, our president and some of his senior ministers are going to Moscow for a couple of days to see Mr Putin - for further discussions on what the Russians want.....

No matter who owns it, or what devices it does or doesn't have, it's hideous.

There's only two things that differentiate Men and Boys- the price of their toys!

Gone but not forgotten...
Re: Sailing Yacht 'A'
The yacht "ICON" can be chartered for up to 588,500 Euros a month in "high" season.

Hi Lloyd,
I have a vivid imagination! Also my time in her majesty's armed forces makes me naturally want to question what the Russians still want? OK, they would probably like the use of Akrotiri and Limassol docks for their air force and navy, but our armed forces aren't likely to agree to that!! I also agree with you that if CY still owes them 4billion, that may need discussion too...
Usually, if someone gives you something in terms of money they want more in return. Maybe if Anastassiades remains after the next election in Feb, the island is in relatlively safe hands, but suppose the unthinkable happens and the son of a former president gets in, what happens then?
