Cyprus needs to up its waste game says EC
Re: Cyprus needs to up its waste game says EC
It seems to me that Lloyd mentioned animal cruelty in response to Hudswell not me . I Don't believe I am the only one that has gone off topic but have it your own way, bury your heads in the sand and enjoy Utopia!

I have no doubt that improvements are needed in Cyprus..........but.... In Cyprus my refuse is collected twice per week, at a reasonable cost. I utilise the recycling bins for recyclable items, their are now many more recycling bins in the last few years. I tidy the area around my villa (happily)
Compare this with my Scottish relatives, refuse collection once per month...... 5 different bins or receptacles to fill, fines if you get it wrong, increase in vermin around the bins. The need to wash all milk bottles and cans etc prior to placing them in the correct receptacle, wasting huge amounts of water in the process.
Cyprus is improving, and the Cyprus youth will make sure it does.

Stop throwing your toys out of your pram and just start a different thread. It isn't rocket science!

I don't think anybody has claimed it is anywhere near perfect. But it is getting better, as you say. The UK benefited from the "Keep Britain Tidy" campaign. Has there been a similar one in Cyprus? What is Greek for "Keep Cyprus Tidy"?Mark wrote: ↑Thu Oct 12, 2017 9:03 pm I have no doubt that improvements are needed in Cyprus..........but.... Back on subject, I have family in Amsterdam, and they dont have dustbins, they have neighborhood underground massive containers, where you use a card to access them, different containers for different waste..no unsightly bins, no cats/rats crawling over them, and a lorry comes round pulls it out of the ground and puts an empty one back, over here in the east Im pleased to say, they have installed these in Larnaca an Napa with EU funding, good news and the way forward.

Littering in the UK is rife and the difference is we fund the solution, not the problem. I.e. squads along motorways picking up litter..... rather than education of the masses.....
Our animal cruelty is reserved for chickens, cows, goats and the like. Massive sheds with animals never seeing grass. But out of sight....
Britain leads the world in many areas, but we are still poor in others. When you visit a ‘clean’ country like in Scandinavia, you realise the difference in no gum on pavements and no papers in the roads....
I first came to Cyprus in 2006 and purchased property. I am ‘invested’ in Cyprus long-term. I do see the faults, but also the improvements. In Peyia, they are now addressing the roads, weeds on pavements and so on. Litter collection is better and fines for dumping I have actually witnessed. The effort is being made. I also see projects being finished better than previously, with finished roads and pavements, light poles etc. A long way to go, but it isn’t easy in a country where local taxes are very low.

Some of the Brits need educating also, most of my full and part time neighbours through everything, even glass, into the green bins because they cant be bothered going up the road to the recycle bins.

Very good point about local Taxes, how many of us would be happy to see an increase in our local council tax to fund better waste management....Ive got a feeling not many.Jimgward wrote: ↑Fri Oct 13, 2017 9:05 am Littering in the UK is rife and the difference is we fund the solution, not the problem. Educating the masses re. litter starts in childhood, with the parents. My children were taught to put litter into a bin, if no bin, bring it home. I have emptied my Son's trouser pockets of all sorts of rubbish when he was a boy, but at least I had the knowledge that the message had got home.
