State Ambulance Based in Peyia

Post by Bograt »

Hello all,

I remember a while ago, reading that there was going to be State ambulances based in Peyia and a couple of other villages. I believe they were talking about having Ambulance centres set up around the area, to increase response times.

Without wishing to get into the whole "what is an ambulance if not staffed by paramedics" debate :D :D , can anybody tell me if this base has been established in Peyia yet?

I did see a rather rickety looking ambulance at the Theo Royal Medical Centre in Kissonerga, but I'm guessing that was just to ferry their patients about.

I'm still undecided as to what to do regarding ambulance cover when living in Cyprus, so thought that I'd find out everything that is current.

Thanks for any input.

Maybe if you are uncomitted as regards having a house/appartment in Cyprus, you might consider living closer to Paphos? Then concern about the closeness of an ambulance would not be a worry for you. Peyia is about 10km from Paphos, while Chloraka and Kissonerga would both be closer to Paphos.
Incidentally, the private ambulance service is once again based in Kissonerga.

Yes there is a state ambulance in Peyia. The ambulance is next to the fire brigade.

Thank you, I'll keep my eyes open then. I'm glad they got it up and running.

Yes indeed, thank you for the reply. This could be our preferred option, but nice to know what's what.

Thank you. We are now committed rental wise to Sea Caves/St George, thus my interest in a state ambulance up the road in Peyia. I'll also have to learn about the Polis hospital, as that is now technically nearer home. We've got further and further away from Paphos over the years, starting in TOTK, Peyia, and now out in the boondocks a bit, tarantulas and all... Love it!

Do bear in mind that I believe the A&E services in Polis are very limited.. Especially compared to Paphos.

And by the way, a route finder gives 15 km from sea caves to Paphos hospital. And 29 to the Polis one/
This is from the centre of Sea Caves Avenue

Oh thank you, that is very kind. Thinking it through, it is a nice straight road all along the coast, until you get to Paphos, so that is probably better. I didn't know that A&E was a bit limited in Polis.

I like all the options one has in Cyprus I must say. Depending on how ill you are, there is lots of choice from a drop in 24 hour centre, to the full monty at the General or a private Hospital. Having had the scary experience of being rather poorly in the UK on a Sunday, not desperate enough for A&E but really not well enough to be left, I appreciate it.

I'm not a hypochondriac, honest   - but I like to know what's what just in case.

If I was you, Bograt, possibly I would have opted to live nearer to Paphos than Agios Georgious, as Paphos has the best medical facilities in this area, Though serious cases are sometimes referred from Paphos to Nicosia or Limassol hospitals.
Sometimes taking the patient by private car to A&E is the quickest way in an emergency. If the patient is well enough to do this.
